Summary
Knives is sick. Dying, actually. After the end of TriMax, Vash takes him across Gunsmoke to find somewhere that Knives deems fitting for his last resting place — by small towns, past bustling November City, and through hundreds of iles of empty desert. In the end, they find themselves where they began: the site of the Big Fall. On this last road trip, Vash and Knives grapple with everything between them and everything they've lost, with the ghost of Rem at their backs.
Or: on loving your brother more than you ever should have, and hating him more than anyone else in the world.

Via Raditz’s broken scouter, Bulma tries to recover access to Planet Trade networks and technologies to get an upper hand against the androids. But in so doing, she discovers Raditz’s private files—writings and recordings he kept for himself over his long travels with Vegeta and Nappa under Freeza. Tales of their exploits and descent into madness come to change her perception of Vegeta and her relationship with him.
Homeworld Lost is a novel-length dark science-fantasy story with explicit violence, horror, and erotica (sometimes simultaneously). Generally canon compliant. Explores Vegeta’s backstory under the Planet Trade Organization and his fraught relationships with his comrades, particularly the twisted bond he and Raditz share. Most of the story is narrated by Raditz, but there are lots of twists. He is an unreliable narrator, and in places, altered mental states allow him to take other points of view. We also get interludes from Bulma as she reads and reacts to Raditz's account.

"Back talked. Nobody likes that," Vash lilted. Oh, he wanted to slap him, but he couldn't lift his arm. He stared instead, until Vash's expression went thin and his fingers found Nai's jaw. Even if he hadn't been able to feel the rasp in his song, he'd have known by the tension in his fingertips that his brother was angry with him again. Or not with him - with him. Or perhaps with him after all. "I said not to worry about it, Nai," he said. "And I meant it."
Knives has been emptied of everything - and that leaves Vash nowhere to put his grief.

From that fateful night the boy had suddenly showed up in Conrad's study years after the Big Fall, worrying about him more or less came as second nature. It's not that he didn't think Knives could hold his own on a day-to-day basis - it was the accumulation of things, the slow and ominous snowballing as, time and time again, just like today, Knives shouldered his concern aside and plowed onward.
Conrad had seen it all before. That's why, even as the powerlessness and guilt ate at him relentlessly, there was never a time he wished he could forget it. It served as a warning, one which Conrad vowed never to ignore; After all, it could very well be Knives' only hope of surviving the inevitable crash.
OR: A young Knives learns the hard way that there are some things he can't deal with on his own. Fortunately, learning he doesn't have to comes a little more easily.

“Knives,” Vash says. There’s a note of warning in his voice. He pulls his foot away, and Knives can only look at his empty hands. Soft, unscarred hands.
He knows the words will upset Vash before they crowd onto his tongue, but still, they spill out. He’s never outright lied to Vash; he’s never wanted to.
Though his chest has gone tight, he says, “It felt necessary at the time.”

Meryl mutters something under her breath, soft footfalls receding from where Knives lays. He can feel Vash’s sigh of relief. His brother has never been this concerned for his wellbeing. Knives was always second to Vash’s precious little humans. Perhaps Knives missed something between the release of death and the timelessness of the welcoming void. Just how long had it been anyway?
He can’t exactly ask Vash, not at the moment at least. It takes nearly all of his strength to open his eyes a fraction to see Vash’s distorted countenance. Knives can make out what must be a smile. Vash’s voice is soft, whispered, only for Knives to hear.
“Welcome back, Knives.”
