“Everything?” Flint sits up, more at attention. He tries to see where it couldn’t possibly be hurting-- where else.
“I think I’ve been set on fire.” Silver mutters, his words sticking in his throat. He clears his throat, although it might’ve been another gag. “I’m burning up-- burning alive, I know it. I know I am.”
Flint hears the truth webbed in his words: once he’s burned, he’ll only be ash. he won’t come back. Flint knows the burn, one currently smoldering embers in the pit of his stomach, waiting for a winded moment of solitude to flare up and engulf him.

The water was cool against his skin, making him shiver, probably visibly. He touched the sponge against the area around his stump, doing his best not to wince. The water always helped, always lessened the pain.
“I'd be careful not to waste a single drop of that, if I were you,” Flint spoke up from his desk, making notes in his log. He hadn't looked at Silver since his quartermaster had removed his clothing. Probably too distracting, Silver thought, with a twist of newfound pride.

Silver doesn’t get the chance to turn back and attack the Spanish soldiers when he and Flint are captured on the warship, so he needs to come up with a different plan. Things get out of control. A retelling of their time on the warship at the beginning of S2, in the aftermath of this.
___MIND TAGS. I almost tagged this as noncon. The first chapter is very much dealing with sexual assault. Yes, they are into each other, yes, they are doing the best they can in a fucked up situation, and they work through it, but it's definitely not good.
