Finally, Zoey blurted it out, voice soft but sharp:
“Have you ever thought of… something besides monogamy?”
Mira’s thumb stilled on the screen. She looked up, slow. “…What?”
Zoey’s hands twisted in her lap. “Like—not open relationships. Just… not just one person. Have you ever thought about being with more than one person and it still being okay?”
She wasn’t looking at Mira. Her voice was tight, like it hurt to speak. Mira watched her with a furrowed brow, still quiet.
“I feel so guilty all the time. Because I love you, Mira. I love you, and this doesn’t change that, but I see her and I want to make her smile and I want her to hold my hand and I think she’s beautiful and weird and sweet and I—”
She finally looked up, tears shining in her eyes.
“I think I ruined us. And I’m so sorry.”
Mira just stared at her. Wide-eyed. Silent.
Zoey’s heart dropped. “Say something.”
Mira exhaled like she’d been holding her breath for a month.
Then she visibly deflated—shoulders dropping, head tilting back against the wall—and let out a quiet, choked laugh.
“…Oh thank god.”

For the first time in V’s life, she can choose her own path. The universe is saved. She isn’t a slave to humans. No impending doom looming in on her… right?
Granted, the lack of “stuff” is leaving her alone with some pretty scary questions.
Lizzy just wishes V would stop being so annoying and distant. Why can’t V just accept that Lizzy loves her, no matter what?
This “New Normal” will either bring V closer with her found family, or drive them apart for good.
Is she really that bad?

Zoey has a very dark past that gave her scars, physically and mentally, and is scared to let Mira in fully, but Mira helps her realize that her dark past doesn't mean a dark future, that the scars she has is only proof that she's still alive and living.
And this time, Zoey actually believes it.
But her past still creeps in sometimes, making her fall back to old patterns. Only time and care from people that care about her can heal the deep wounds of the past.
