The Drifter has worn themself ragged, burnt out beyond belief but is refusing to talk to anyone about it, despite being on record telling just about everyone that they can come to *them* if they're going through it ™️.
Amir is oblivious to the fact that they've been crushing on him probably since that first New Years night, no matter how obvious it is to several other members of the Hex.
A nightmare filled night ends with them making some rough mistakes on a techrot purge.

The urge to relax quickly evaporated as he caught a glance of the mannequin next to the sitting area. It had been there when his partner had arrived for the first time to the mall, ‘tagged’ by a duplicate set of his shades. Neither had bothered to move it, even as Amir moved into the backrooms with them.
But, evidently, his partner had done some redecorating.
Even from where he sat, he could spot the vibrant orange collar that now rested on the mannequin’s neck, complete with a short, thick leash, the loop of which rested in its odd plasticine hand.

Summary
Steve Rogers is a seasoned activist and not at all afraid to get arrested while protesting the building of a pipeline. HOWEVER he is TERRIFIED when he realizes he’ll be chained to the same backhoe as Bucky “very handsome southern boy who also plays guitar and struts like a panther in his very tight, worn thin blue jeans” Barnes.
Our brave, tiny Steve will find out once and for all: Can you catch on fire from blushing over your crush?
May Contain: Extended descriptions of how to get arrested while chained to a backhoe, copious amounts of sisters, Appalachian accents, cheerful silliness interspersed with tragic background realness. Pining with a happy ending. Chicken related controversy.
Tragic background realness mainly consists of parents passing away, because who doesn’t love adult orphans. Discussion of funerals. Very brief homophobic interaction in chapter 18 (marked in the chapter intro notes). There is no violence, but there are a few moments where you might think there might be violence. Overall this is a romance not a gritty, hard hitting documentary.
If I missed any potential triggers I always appreciate being told as I know what it's like to have my day/etc ruined by something in a fic.

There was a long pause and Natasha listened to the static of Bruce’s breathing through the receiver in terrible anticipation.
Finally, he said, “He’s… he’s alive, Nat.”
Her knees gave out and she sagged down onto the couch. “What?”
“We detected an anomaly in the lab and thought we were in for another incident. We scrambled the disaster response team, called the government and everything. But, Nat, when we opened the security feed… he was just… there.”
There was only one reason Bruce would be calling her to deliver this news— she was next of kin. She drew a soft breath, her voice barely above a whisper. “Steve?”
There was a short pause before Bruce replied, “That is what he responds to, yes.”
