“Dad gives great backrubs,” Christopher announces, and Eddie’s grin goes a little lopsided.

Summary
Christopher thrusts his empty wrapper at Buck, then stares expectantly at him until Buck finishes his own ice cream. Buck tries hard not to laugh. Christopher is eager to continue their tour of the zoo, even though this isn’t their first or dozenth time here, and Buck appreciates the little boy’s enthusiasm, loves that it hasn’t dimmed no matter how many times he sees the same animals. Buck could do with looking at the world with the same childlike wonder, instead of stressing and worrying about worse-case scenarios. It’s the nature of the job, he knows, but maybe he should take some lessons from Christopher.
“Ready to go, kid?” he asks, biting back a smile at Christopher’s put-upon sigh.
“Yes!” He jumps off the bench, then sighs when Buck pulls him between his knees to attack him with a napkin. He has chocolate smeared all over his face. “Buck,” he whines, fidgeting and huffing impatiently.
“Okay, okay. Hold your horses.”
“I don’t have any horses.” His little nose scrunches, and Buck laughs. “Come on! Tigers next, Buck!”
Ruffling Christopher’s messy curls, Buck stands and hands Christopher his crutches. “All right, Superman. Lead the way.”

“What,” Eddie blows out a long breath as he looks up at Chimney, “do I just say screw it and as soon as he walks up here I ask Hey Buck want to be my date to the Fireman’s Ball?”
Chimney’s eyes go, suddenly, comically wide and Eddie swallows the lump (most definitely his heart) in his throat as he slowly shifts in his chair, turning to see what Chimney is looking at. There, standing just at the top of the stairs in his hoodie, sweatpants, and fucking socks and slides of all things is Buck, yawning tiredly and running his hand through his sleep-soft curls.
“Be your what for the what?” Buck asks, blinking bleary blue eyes before he beelines towards the coffee machine which Eddie hadn’t noticed was beeping until now.
“Eddie’s date,” Chimney, the fucking traitor repeats, with a smug smile loud enough for Buck to hear, “to the Fireman’s Ball.”

Looking at Evan is hard sometimes, the same way looking into the sun without blinking is hard, but looking away is even harder because Evan has a smile that lights up a room and when he laughs, his eyes crinkle at the corners.
Eddie has wanted him since the moment they met, and while that was easy to ignore - this is harder. This, that's Evan's humor and the way he cares too much about the people around him and not nearly enough about himself. It's the way he'll memorize random fun facts he's never going to need but still doesn't know the difference between Star Trek and Star Wars, and it's his complete disregard for personal space, highlighted every time his shoulder bumps Eddie's when they're walking next to each other.

Buck jolts awake, the siren blaring out and startling him from a nondescript nightmare. Huh. The siren? He had just finished a 24 hour shift yesterday morning, how did he end up back at the 118?
He looks around, sees Ravi and Lucy and Chim filing out from between the bunks, Hen already by the door. Just like they were yesterday.
“Vehicle accident with injured driver at West Adams and La Salle,” Bobby comments when they make it over to their turnouts.
“Again?” Buck mumbles. “What’s with that area?”
Chim gives him a funny look and taps the helmet Buck just slipped on. “You gotta check your sense of direction, Buckaroo. Haven’t been over to La Salle in a hot minute.”
He shakes his head to clear it as he jogs over to the ladder truck. He’ll have to check if it’s the full moon or mercury is in retrograde or something - the déjà vu he’s feeling is prickling the back of his neck uncomfortably.

“Marry me, Eddie,” Buck groans, the rich flavors bursting on his tongue.
Eddie laughs, but the sound is only a background noise to Buck, his brain entirely focused on the drink in front of him and how the second sip from it somehow tastes better than the first.
“Already married, remember?” Eddie comments, and Buck frowns at him for a moment before he remembers his blurted out proposal.
“Well, damn,” Buck says, tightening the grip on his cup minutely and then loosening it instantly. “Shannon is a lucky woman if you bring her coffee this perfect every morning.”

Summary
They follow the room numbers down the hallway until the last door on the right. It’s slightly ajar, and when Eddie knocks politely, it opens further.
“Hey,” a cheerful, male voice says. “You guys are early!”
When Eddie spots the source of the voice, he nearly swallows his tongue.
The man is tall, with broad shoulders and huge arms, a sunny smile on his face that looks so genuine Eddie can’t help but smile back. There’s a splash of pink over his one eye, his hair is just the slightest bit curly, and his eyes are startlingly blue. He’s also about 80% legs, and leaning on a cane to walk.
Belatedly, Eddie remembers that he should say something too, not just stare at this guy approaching them.
“Uh,” he starts eloquently. “Sorry. This one was getting impatient at home.”~
Newly arrived to LA, Eddie decides to take his son to parent/child cooking classes. The instructor is so much more than he expected.
