Summary
By the time they’ve reached the landing, Henry is shaking his arm out of Alex’s grip. “The picture of grace under fire,” he says, the words snapping from his mouth. Alex blinks at him, before his face smooths into its professional mask. “You can’t pick a fight with the Queen’s equerry, no matter how averse you are to the concept of the monarchy.”
Alex looks Henry up at down, his mouth forming a tight line. “I don’t pick fights, Your Majesty,” he says, adjusting his grip on Henry’s suitcase. Henry can’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness of that statement. “Shaan called me a few weeks ago to go over every single thing that made you miserable about the holidays. It was a very long phone call.” Henry doesn’t doubt that. “I’m going to help you avoid as many of those items as possible.”

Alex, an American former-MC, steps in during Shaan’s paternity leave, much to Henry’s chagrin. Fortunately for Henry, the mysterious American just may be the best thing that’s ever happened to him.

Alex doesn’t have anything against his roommate—or his sexual proclivities; obviously, there’s nothing wrong with that, but it gets to a point where almost every other night Henry has a ‘friend’ over and Alex has to pull out his noise-canceling headphones to be able to endure another minute in their shared dorm.

Alec tilts his head in puzzlement, glancing at his brother as if wondering how he could possibly consider that Alec had taken them there instead of here. “No?”
Alec’s head moves back to level and he narrows his eyes instead. “We said we were going home after patrol.”
The ‘ergo, we are home now’ wasn’t said, but it was obvious in implication.

Magnus Bane had been in practically every type of place there was - both magical and mundane. He owned a place like that. Pandemonium was one of the most popular nightclubs in the city. It was also well known for anyone in the magical community to meet, talk, hook up, and do just about anything else. If there was something you wanted, something you needed to do, Pandemonium had a room for it. All the vices a warlock could need right there in his own building.
So, it would figure Magnus would meet the other half of himself in a random coffee shop where he was supposed to be meeting up with a client, with a grumpy little dragon with the cutest scowl he’d ever seen.

Henry is a doctor at a NY public hospital. His visa to work in the States expires, and he has to leave the country. His only option for another working visa is to go back to the UK for a year and apply from there, something he is not ready to do. His boss, June Claremont-Díaz, offers the help of her recently graduated attorney brother. It is not just that nobody asked Alex how he feels about helping Henry. It is that he and Alex met a couple of years ago, before Alex went to Texas to do his internship, and it didn’t go well. Every time they’ve met since, they’ve been rude to each other. Nothing predicts this time might be different.
