Shang Qinghua’s smile collapsed almost instantly. “Oh, gods, what am I saying?” He scrubbed a hand over his face, leaving another smear of drying blood. “I’m not qualified for this! I can barely keep myself alive half the time! You need—uh—you need a responsible, kindhearted woman from a humble background with good soup-making skills, not a chronically overworked peak lord-slash-spy!”
The baby responded by making a small, gurgling noise that sounded alarmingly like agreement.

Satomi kneels on the edge of the mattress. He crawls forward carefully, making eye contact the entire time. Kyouji meets his eyes, but his face remains blank, and he doesn’t move. He doesn’t move even as Satomi settles himself in Kyouji’s lap, with one hand on Kyouji’s necktie, forcing him to gaze upwards.
“Kyouji-san,” Satomi says quietly. “I passed my high school entrance exams. Aren’t you going to reward me?”
Twenty-year-old Satomi puts on a high school uniform and begs Kyouji to have his way with him.
