Days after the Resistance was nearly wiped out at the Battle of Crait, Rey and new Supreme Leader Kylo Ren are forced to realize that the bond between them was not extinguished when they went their separate ways.
As the implications of their connection begin to become clear and they realize that their destinies are entwined, a new threat rises that threatens to destroy them all.
“Whatever this bond is between us, it doesn’t seem to be going away,” Rey hissed through clenched teeth. “We have to deal with that, somehow, but we are still on opposite sides of a war. You chose that.”
“Not much of a war,” he quipped with a nasty smirk. “There is almost nothing left of the Resistance and the First Order’s power still spreads. As for the bond between us,” he glanced pointedly at the spot on his chest where her head had been resting, “you didn’t seem to mind it last night.”

Summary
Rey is done with the thankless, grueling work on Plutt's farm, and she surely has no desire to marry one of his foul business associates. She decides to escape to Chicago and start a new life, but to do that, she needs a horse.
Ben Solo has kept to himself ever since his wife died nearly twenty years before. He prefers spending quiet days on his farm tending his crops and his animals. His peace is disturbed, however, when a pretty, young horse thief appears in his barn, badly injured.
Anyone else would have shot the girl, but Solo senses there is more to her story.

The envoy’s words should have pleased Lady Rey. After all, her husband was one of the dreaded Norman barons who invaded her beloved country and claimed the lands in the name of the bastard who now called himself king. Ben Solo had stormed her uncle’s keep, killed all the men who opposed their new conquerors, and claimed the stronghold for his own.
He took the keep, he took the surrounding lands and, at the new king’s orders, took Rey to wife.
Rey should have hated him. But, in the six months following their hasty and undesirable marriage, Rey found that hatred for her new husband was the furthest emotion from her heart and mind.
