“Can’t it be both?” Caleb dares to rest his cheek against the other’s knee, hands delving into sweeping up and down the back of Essek’s calf. Essek taps the toe of the other boot against Caleb’s thigh before using it to push him backward by the shoulder.
“Either way, there is more work to be done.”

Summary
Entropy (noun): a scientific concept that is most commonly associated with a state of disorder, randomness, or uncertainty.
If someone had told Essek that the next two months were going to involve a sleepover, meeting an archfey, a death anniversary, the implosion of Den Thelyss, and Verin flirting with Mollymauk, he wouldn't have believed them. But standing in his living room, surveying the wreckage his mother created as Caleb and he cleaned it, Essek felt like he no longer controlled entropy, it controlled him.

Being friends with the Mighty Nein is infuriating. They're loud and vulgar, and Essek has long since picked up the defense mechanism of smiling and laughing along to jokes he doesn't understand while he googles nasty words on urban dictionary under the table. It frustrates him though. Essek has never liked not knowing things, anything. When he confides that fact in Caleb his friend is all to quick to jump at the chance to offer Essek some...hands on lessons for anything he might not understand.

Summary
It starts like this: Essek, in a fit of lonely idiocy, agrees to partake in a honeypot scheme with the Mighty Nein. It goes about as smoothly as he should have expected.
It evolves to this: by decree of Deirta Thelyss, Verin is tasked with protecting his brother and his brother’s friends(??) as they parlay with the Children of Malice over the diplomatic incident they caused. Verin remembers his brother being much more of an aloof douche and much less of a floating disaster.
Or: In a reality where the Mighty Nein do a stop in Xhorhas prior to meeting up with DeRogna, Essek agrees to help with one side quest and ends up with a lover, a brother, and a fight with a god.

This will be a mid-length multi-chap of a year in the life of wizards in love. I'll promise right now that we're not getting angsty in this. L*fespans will be mentioned, it's inevitable, but it's not going to be featured, because they are trying to live in the here and now, dammit. Nobody breaks up, nobody dies. Summary
Something is very wrong with Essek. He has far too many limbs, is sporting claws and sharp teeth, hisses and growls, and can probably fit inside Caleb’s component pouch. But Caleb is certain he can reverse this strange Aeorian magic. Really, what kind of wizard would he be if he couldn't? It just takes some elbow grease and hard work.

To be bartered off as—as a diplomatic representative of all things. It was absurd, insulting. Was the prestige his accomplishments brought to the den not enough? The Bright Queen herself had awarded him the title of Shadowhand for the advancements he’d made to the field of dunamancy, advancements that had secured countless victories in the war. Why should he have to upend his entire life to accommodate some human he’d never even met?

Summary
The first letter Essek receives from Caleb Widogast is secreted into his pocket at some point during a tense interview with the Bright Queen. For the life of him, Essek cannot figure out how it was done. He doesn’t recall so much as brushing against the other man as he escorted the Mighty Nein out of the Lucid Bastion.
Yet when he returns to his office, there it is, tucked into a nearly invisible pocket in his mantle — a piece of subpar parchment folded to vaguely resemble a cat’s face with tiny pointed ears.
