The air grew thick once more with a tension Eve couldn't fully grasp. She knew Mark's heart was heavy from everything that had happened within the span of a day. She would grant him all the grace in the world, but then there was that lingering stare he'd given her a second time, as if mystified and disillusioned all at once. Or perhaps she was misreading his eyes, and another layer waited to be peeled back. That's where her grace was truly tested, because she knew in her heart of hearts that he was just as unsure of what to do in this respite as she was.
