Summary

He blinks, watching ball after ball soar across cotton blue skies, boys dotting the field below, huffing and puffing and wiping sweat from their faces. He Tian folds his hands across his lap as Mo squints, calculating as it soars, his coach screeching at him to run.
It’s just practice.
Mo doesn't need to work this hard, whittle down the little strength he has left to the bone. But he does, anyway.
Because he can.

For twelve miserable years life had become all but stagnant, days blurred together. Wake up. Lace tedious mud-stained leather boots. Listen to the static voices of the radio, wait for the news; be it good or bad.
Maybe in a another life, where war wasn’t ravaging the country, Reiner could have found happiness.
It’s a nice thought.

Tobirama remembers the times when Madara wanted nothing but to avenge his little brother, cursing Tobirama’s very existence any chance he got and vowing to kill him in the most violent way possible. He remembers Madara, who had, horrified, witnessed Tobirama attempt Edo Tensei for the first time, distraught, lost, and desperate, managing to summon a mangled version of a deer from a place no one and nothing should be able to return from.
The way Madara looked at him, behaved around him changed that day, and Tobirama can’t quite decide whether it’s a blessing or a curse.

Tobirama’s genius brain apparently lacks the capacity to realize his own very obvious crush on Madara until Izuna graciously points it out.
