Summary
One day on the Island of Sodor, James the Red Engine decides to try coke. No, I mean the fuel, what did you think I meant? It ends badly. Coal-fired locomotives should be fired on coal and coal only, or if necessary wood, and James is about to learn this the hard way.
(Not a trollfic I promise, this is based on an actual story about somebody trying to burn coke in a coal-fired steam locomotive with hilarious and almost disastrous results. I read it and thought "this sounds like a Thomas the Tank Engine episode" and then went "James would totally do this")

Summary
A decade into her relationship with Lightning McQueen, Sally waits for news after The Crash and is forced to think about the fact that neither of them are particularly good at dealing with change. (Maybe it’s the Doc in them.)
Definitely not related: Bobby and Cal navigate serious stuff. Like their careers ending. And their best friend possibly dying. And some other things they’ve been avoiding.
Or: Sally and Lightning from the very beginning, flipping through the past and present. Featuring Father Figure Doc Hudson, slow burn Bobby/Cal, found family, fandom reddit being absolutely unhinged, the “why aren’t Lightning and Sally married” convo, and lots of exploration about how we handle grief.
Up Now:
"Where’d you get all the cone stuff, anyway?” It’s a good save. Lightning sounds genuinely curious. “I didn’t even know they made this many cone-shaped things.”
“You know. Around.” Sally shifts her weight to rest a hand on her hip. “Traffic Cones, Bath, and Beyond.”

10 years ago - No one else can picture the romanticized Radiator Springs in Sally’s head. The town’s new arrival just wants a nap, a shower, and to find what’s left of his dignity.Bookmarked by Sunshine201
