She pouts, and he wants to bite that bottom lip. “That doesn’t sound very neighbourly, Mister Mayor.”
“And what would you consider neighbourly?”
Another hum as she gives him a onceover. “Well, I’m not gonna give you all the answers. What’s the fun in that?”

Summary
Most of the town is at the Third Rail. Hancock tries to enjoy himself, but he’s very aware of Nora’s lack of presence. Every time he makes an attempt at leaving to track her down, though, he gets stopped by someone wanting his attention. And being the good mayor he is, he hates to ignore his people.
But then his eyes widen as she finally walks down the steps.

Nora had been hoping to make a quiet entrance. The moment Hancock spots her, though, everyone else’s heads also turn in her direction. She hopes her face isn’t as bright red as it feels, what with everyone watching her until she’s at the bottom of the stairwell. Then everyone turns back to their drinks and chems.
Except Hancock, who weaves through the crowd to greet her. “Ya made it.”

He can’t hold back the eyeroll this time. “It’s called an accident, Sweetheart. ‘Sides, I didn’t know. Ain’t like I can see through walls. So, how was I supposed to—?”
“By knocking.”
He huffs. “Well, ‘scuse me for not givin’ ya the luxury of a private room.”
She takes a deep breath. “You’re right. I’m sorry. This isn’t your fault. What has happened, happened.” She gets to her feet. “Can we drop it now?”
He hums. “Depends.”
“On?”
He tilts his head, debating if he should go through with this. “Who’s Cooper?” If he’s lucky, the risk will be worth the reward.

“Fine.” Cooper shifts in the uncomfortable, half-rotted seat. “Back at the Observatory, for a moment, I thought that bullet had my name on it.”
“You know, it is a bit surprising that you dared to turn your back to me.” He thinks he can see her tilting her head through the screen. “Why did you?”
Tch. That might as well be the question of the fucking week. “Reckon I trusted you’d come to the same realisation as me.”
“And what’s that?”
“We’re on the same side.”
