Summary
Vox froze when he heard Alastor wheeze loudly and painfully, like he was practically dying where he sat. His flatscreen head snapped up from the holographic documents he was looking at and he saw Alastor sitting hunched over in his chair, head hung low and ears laid back.
“Alastor?”
“’M fine,” the radio demon mumbled.
“The fuck you are,” Vox grumbled. He pushed himself to his feet and strode over to his deer captive. Alastor pathetically swung his legs in an attempt to push himself away, but a cable sprung from Vox’s back to hold the chair in place, meaning his feet only slid uselessly against the tile floor.
With how weak Alastor looked in this moment, Vox wasn’t even sure that he would have been able to push himself away even without the cable.
He pressed a hand against Alastor’s forehead and frowned at just how hot the other man’s body felt under his palm.
Fucking Christ, he’s like an oven.

Summary
“Well, isn’t this a surprise?” Alastor drawled, derision dripping from every word. “What is it that you want, you obnoxious picture box?”
Despite his efforts to maintain his composure, Vox’s voice warbled as he replied, “It’s my birthday today.”
“Are you drunk?”
“…” That was what he was focused on?? “What’s it to you?”
“Hmm,” Alastor hummed.
Vox imagined him curling the telephone cord around his beautiful, clawed fingers. The same claws that once tenderly guided Vox as they slow danced in the radio demon’s living room, fireplace lit and warm. The same claws that later would viciously tear into Vox’s flesh, drawing blood and cutting down to the bone.

Rosas prospered.
They never needed King Magnifico. If anything, they were all better off without him. The raging, petulant, self-important man who thought that he knew best and threw a fit when one even dared to question him.

Summary
Mordin spent most nights— correction, every— night studying them. Taking notes. Thinking up possible solutions. It was better than constantly mulling over his past. A past he only remembered pieces of. A past that no one seemed to have any record of.
Working in labs, mostly. The one on the ship, the one that he couldn’t remember the name of beyond it starting with the human letter N… that lab had been his favorite.
His omni-tool provided no answers either, as its original storage chip had been damaged to the point where no data could be retrieved and rendering the overall device useless for some time. Luckily, he had been able to construct a new one and thus got it working again.
Mordin wished he could remember more. But he couldn’t. And so, working on the Flood problem seemed to be the more productive thing to do.
If only he could make some headway.

Summary
Vox didn’t know what to expect after The Might of Lilith exploded. He figured there would be nothing. He figured he would just cease to be aware of anything at all entirely.
Instead he was in a very unfamiliar place. Metal walls all around, bright lights surrounding a small table upon which someone in armor was lying, curled up in pain, and on either side of the table stood two people: a living, breathing human and… Vox wasn’t sure what the other person was, exactly. They weren’t human, but they couldn’t be a demon either. Could they?
Any and all humans in Hell were dead and turned into demons upon arrival.
Vox moved closer to get a better look. Then they looked up at him.
“Hmm. Don’t recognize you from area… don’t recognize your species either. A screen for a head— curious. No mercenary uniform. Quarantine still in effect.”
“Quarantine?” Vox repeated blankly.

Summary
The pair stepped into a much larger chamber, and in the center sat a strange looking device, with tubes that glowed an ominous lime-green. The thing was at least two feet taller than Charlie, and wider than even a Flying Khallid. As they slowly, cautiously approached, Charlie scanned the machine with her tricorder. The same fungus they saw growing on the Khallids grew on the ground here in small patches, with the largest one directly under the strange device.
“No match to any known technology,” Charlie said, “but I think it’s safe to say this machine’s the source of the infection.”

Summary
White Pearl stumbled out of the TV shop, unnerved by the terrified yet bewildered stares the shopkeepers and customers gave her. (How did she know what those even were? They had nothing like that back on Homeworld.)
She lifted a hand to brush her hair out of her face— not because she had any in her face, but because it was a firmly ingrained habit. Only, her fingers met a hard, plastic surface. Not smooth, loose hair made of hard light.
What??
White Pearl lifted her other hand and proceeded to feel all over her face with both hands. Plastic. Glass.
She rushed to the shop window to look at her reflection. The only thing that resembled her in the slightest was her white and blue bodysuit. It did not, however, fit the body she was in. For one, she had a television for a head. A television!
(How did she know what a television was? She had never seen one before, especially not on Homeworld.)

Summary
The furious death glare Mordin wore as Shepard brought down the butt of her pistol against his forehead to knock him out somehow rattled her more than when he actually pointed a gun at her.
Shepard stared at his face for a moment afterwards. Stared at the faint, glowing scars. Her hand had moved to touch one of them. They were exactly like the ones engrained on her own face. Only one thing could have brought him back to life and left those scars.

Summary
He talked about David like he wasn’t a person. He was flesh and blood, not a computer. He wasn’t an alien, he was a human— and even if he were an alien, it would still not be an excuse.
Shepard paced the lab, her muscles tight, arms firmly crossed and her nails digging into her sleeves. She wished she hadn’t chosen to wear a long-sleeved today. The pain would have been an outlet. Not a good one, but an outlet all the same.

Summary
Vox nearly jumped as something warm bumped against his forehead. Alastor had pressed his forehead against his and was looking into his eyes.
“Penny for your thoughts, my dear?” the Radio Demon asked.
“Just thinking about how much fun I’m having tonight,” Vox said nervously, offering a shy smile. He broke eye contact and stared down at Alastor’s bowtie instead. I wish tonight would never end.
Alastor hummed thoughtfully and closed his eyes all the way, forehead still pressed against Vox’s.
His Alastor.
Vox’s own eyes drifted shut as well. The last thing he remembered before blacking out was thinking about how much he loved Alastor, more than (after)life itself.

Summary
She was a Pearl. But she wasn’t just any Pearl. She was White Diamond’s Pearl.
She was White Pearl.
She was as close to perfection as one could be as a Pearl— after all, she served THE White Diamond. The most important Gem on Homeworld, even moreso than her sisters.
Her Diamond wouldn’t keep her around if her service wasn’t satisfactory.
At least, that was what she thought.
