Summary
Megatron, new to leadership, anticipated betrayal from those above him, rejecting any leadership in all its forms save his own. He had not yet learned to anticipate betrayal from those beneath him.
Optimus found his former friend, looking as he did when they were miners, cog ripped from his chassis and empty once more.
As Optimus hides Megatron away while he heals, they both struggle to face the limits of strength, the burdens of leadership, their roles in the new age of Cybertron, a shared past that still draws them towards one another, the circumstances that forced them apart - and a somewhat inconvenient difference in size.

Megatron is used to his hallucinations of Orion. Hollowed optics, a grey frame, and the giant hole where Megatron’s fusion cannon had hit Orion. He relives the decisions of his past through his traitorous processor.
What he's not used to, is for cogless Orion to show up. Untainted, undamaged, unmarred. Things happen, but his processor remains traitorous all the same.
