All Ilya really cared about was Shane. It was stupid how much his life seemed to revolve around Shane fucking Hollander. And now he was dreaming about being a part of Shane’s life, and he couldn’t get enough of it. It was so pathetic, but he couldn’t bring himself to care because it was such a lovely dream.
But what if this wasn't a dream? What if Ilya had, like, amnesia or something? He almost laughed at the idea. There wasn’t a world where this was his life. It had to be a dream, and fuck, he was gonna enjoy it!

He just needs to find somewhere affordable and, preferably, available immediately - not an easy feat in London. His sister suggests he should look slightly further afield. Kent sounds like a good option.

Well, as happy as they both could be keeping such a major part of their lives a secret.Every time he closed his eyes he saw the hurt that flashed across Ilya’s face right before he kicked him out.

The words had landed in his gut like a rock. They never discussed the things he’d given up, not because Shane wasn’t, at least peripherally, aware that that was the case. He moved to a new country and signed with a team that was so historically bad they were a laughing stock. One of the greatest players in the league tore up his American visa, sold his car collection, and moved to Ottawa just to be within driving distance of him. Ilya did that to give their relationship a real chance.
Or, Ilya kicked Shane out on Boxing day and now he has to wait two weeks to make things right. Those two weeks are going to change everything.

Summary
Rozanov had already been sour about the way Shane had blown past him and snapped a clean one past the goalie during their 4-on-4 scrimmage. So on the next shift, when Shane cut through the neutral zone with the puck, Rozanov had sidled beside him and lunged, driving his shoulder into Shane’s chest and riding him straight into the fucking wall.
The knockback from the helmet had definitely hurt, but Shane had simply banged the wall with a gloved fist and slid right back into the game. His team had won regardless, when he had bitterly sniped the final goal, and when Rozanov and the rest were doing their punishment laps around the rink, he skated past Shane's team, looking so pissed it was like steam was coming out of his ears.
Shane rubs his jaw again. If the pain had come from his slam into the wall, he would have felt the stinging the entire time. But, it doesn’t feel like that. It sure as hell feels like someone just punched him in the face.
