Scoured the depths of ao3 for works of these two, thought I should finally give it a go. Extremely self indulgent but what isn't?
Summary: Little tale between our favorite Tyrant and our silly Sorcerer Durge. They are complicated, awful people with few redeeming qualities, and yet in some twisted, rotten way there is love. And they are entirely blind on how to maneuver through it, a dance in the darkness within which neither knows beginning nor end, simply forced to keep moving by these infatuated heartstrings. It was stupid to regret not following them because he had wanted to -- wanted to what? Kiss Julien Davinos? He knew what Julien was, knew what he had done to Thjazi. There was a world even now where they would be on different sides before long.
He watched dawn break through the window, and still the thought lingered. They were on their way to protect Thjazi's widow from whatever machinations had been put into motion by his death. Before, he had wanted so badly to go with Kattigan and Teor, to be back in the Torn Banner, sheltering behind Teor's shield or helping Kattigan trap rabbits. Now…he didn't know what to do.
A band of soldiers head to the Golden Orchard in search of answers. Unfortunately, the mountain road isn't peaceful.

Summary
Shadia knows in theory that Azune has been to war, but knowing is very different from understanding. Her father went to war, once. He doesn't talk about it. Not really, not to her and or to Alogar either, except in that sideways way that he sometimes talks about dangerous things; telling fantastical stories about something else entirely and letting you read between the lines. Which means Azune has lived something her father thinks that even telling her about is too risky, and Shadia cannot understand.
(In which Hal's children also love each other, all of them, including the one Uncle Thjazi left on dad's doorstep one day without any warning.
...Or: Azune spends a year with the Fang-Lloy-D'vyen family.)

Summary
Occtis was perfectly content with how he set up his life: university friends and cafe friends that overlapped appropriately, family members that accept him and want him to succeed, and a dog who thinks the world of him. He was paving a decent path towards a career as a medical examiner, a path for himself and only himself—perfect. An encounter with a rouge dog and a cafe regular's army buddy moving to town breaks that streak and knocks Occtis off course towards a domain he didn't even know he could perceive: love.
