“remember, slow and steady,” shouta reminded for the nth time in the span of 10 minutes. he was lucky izuku was a sweet little angel or maybe he wasn’t quite at the age where kids become impatient and easily irritable because shouta’s hovering would’ve definitely be cause for a tantrum otherwise. instead, his angel of a toddler nodded seriously, eyes transfixed onto the mug he held firmly in both hands.
“okay, careful now,” shouta fussed one last time before sending the tot off to deliver the cup of coffee. he shot a grateful smile over the lady by the window who returned it reassuringly as she waited for her order.

“Serious,” the man replied. “Like the star,” he clarified, and Remus mentally scratched out 'Serious' and rewrote 'Sirius' in his head.
“The… star?” Marlene asked, her pen hovering over the cup as she hesitated.
“S-I-R-I-U-S,” Remus said. He stocked croissants into the display case, not looking up. “The Dog Star,” he added, “brightest star in the sky, actually. Visible from both hemispheres.” When he looked over, the man– Sirius– seemed surprised, his eyebrows raised as Remus spoke, and when Remus finished, he blinked a few times before smiling lopsidedly.
“Er– yeah,” he breathed a laugh. “That.” There was a baby on his hip. Somehow, it had taken Remus a second glance to notice that.

Summary
Aizawa Shouta is a Siren whose family has been on land for several generations. Once a year he goes on a long cruise to connect with his roots in the ocean and destress. Imagine his surprise when this year, a little Mer pup stows away on his cruise ship. One with magic no less.
Midoriya Izuku is a Mermaid with magic. Magic, having always been rare in Mers but common in Sirens, is taken as a sign of a Mer having Siren lineage. Since Sirens are known predators of Mers, any Mers found to have magic are assumed to be dangerous and banished from their colony.
After breaking his banishment to visit his mom, Izuku finds himself fleeing onto a human ship, knowing that the Mers chasing him won't follow. Imagine his surprise when he finds a Siren on the ship. Now his choices are to return to the water and face execution or stay and be eaten.
Of course, Aizawa has a third option for the pup.

It was, surprisingly, Izuku who chirped up that time. “Not wings,” the little boy said, feeling uninclined to elaborate. Keigo froze, looking slightly pale, and Shouta frowned in confusion.
“What do you mean, Izuku?” he asked the five-year-old, who was ignoring him once again in favor of trying to swing his legs over Keigo’s shoulders. “What do you mean, not wings-”
“Just put it down as Fierce Wings,” Keigo snapped, grabbing Izuku’s ankles and assisting the child in swinging upwards to sit on his shoulders. The little boy chirped happily, scrunching up his nose and flapping his wings a little. “He has wings, right? Same Quirk as me.”
Shouta hesitated, pen hovering over the paper in front of him. After a few moments of inspecting Izuku- who was completely oblivious to Shouta’s confliction- and Keigo- who was stubbornly staring the man down, as if threatening him to question the teen’s statements- Shouta wrote down ‘undecided’.

Steve watched confused as Agent Coulson walked in, a crying child in his hands, both looking distressed. He glanced at Banner, expecting to find some form of regnesion on the man’s face but he found nothing. The man looked as confused as Steve felt. Natasha didn’t seem affected at all either. She remained expressionless as always, eyes trained on the crying child. A well hidden flash of curiosity appeared momentarily on her face, Steve barely caught it.
“What happened?” Tony asked, sounding panicked. He rushed to step forward, putting his hands out to accept the crying boy into his own arms.
