Summary

Standing there, in the dark hallway of his mother's home, Curt thought back to the pulp science fiction novels she bought for him as a child, to encourage him to read. His favorite stories often involved time travel, changing the present by revisiting the past. He wished that he could revisit his past. He wished he could go back and tell himself to stop being so careless, before he breaks something that can't be fixed.
But whatever equipment Barb had in her lab, a time machine certainly wasn't in the inventory. There was no way to undo this. There was no going back. He couldn't talk his way out of it or fight his way out of it. Curt had to sit with the consequences of his actions. He had to hold those consequences in his arms.
