"Good news is it could be worse," Vash tells him. "I don't think it hit anything vital at the angle it went in. The worst should be the chance of infection and that it's probably going to be hard to reach."
A sarcastic huff is the only thing Wolfwood can manage to give him in reply. Lord have mercy, he's tired. Can't he close his eyes a little?
"I told you—you need to stay awake, Wolfwood!" Vash snaps. He presses on the wound roughly and Wolfwood's eyelids fly open.
"S'rry."
The cruel touch immediately turns to soothing strokes to Wolfwood's side.
"No, I'm the one who's sorry," Vash says. " What I was going to say was that the bad news is that I saw those bandits still snooping around the outskirts of town. They might be trying to wait us out, but you never know if they'll get impatient and come looking."
Wolfwood throws himself in the line of fire between a crowded diner and a bounty hunter looking to collect on Vash's head. With his ampules broken in the fall and a shotgun slug to the abdomen, Vash somehow drags them both back to their motel. Wolfwood wonders how they'll patch him up enough to make it out of town alive.

“This is from earlier!” Vash swore back, face as red as his coat, neck bent and nearly nose-to-nose. “Give me a break, I’m not used to this!”
“𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘤𝘬 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯?”

“U-Uhm, hello? Some–is anyone there?”
Robert pauses just in the doorway out of the kitchen, frowning. What the hell was Waterboy doing calling in? Everyone was dismissed hours ago.
Robert clicks the little button on the headset. “Waterboy? What’s up?”
Only then does he start slowly making his way back to his desk. The lights are all off, save for the lamp at the corner of his desk, and the warm, dim glow does nothing to help his exhaustion. “W–uh. Hey! Robert, yes–yeah. So I’m just. Well, I-I have a sort of, you know, situation.”
OR Robert's trying to finish up some late-night assignments. Waterboy is a disaster. It works out for them.

Summary
Vash woke early, first of the suns barely rising above the horizon and air in the bedroom still cool from the night. The bed, however, was still warm. Made even more-so by who he was sharing the space with.
Wolfwood was curled up in front of him, comfortably spooned with Vash's left arm tucked under the pillow and his head. He'd been too warm and opted to sleep nude tonight so Vash was gifted with nothing but his own thin nightshirt and boxers between skin on skin, warm and soft and too tempting not to touch.
He ran his hand first up Wolfwood's back, pulling a deep inhale from him, and pressed a kiss to the back of his neck. Wolfwood made a small sound, shifting a little in response.
"Morning, sunshine," Vash murmured, sliding his hand over Wolfwood's hip.
Wolfwood rumbled softly, tucking his face into the pillow, in his usual attempt to pretend to be sleeping just a while longer. To avoid admitting he still woke well before dawn, ready to drag himself out of a hotel room and into the desert yet again. Vash let him.

“July 21st. That's… tomorrow,” Wolfwood’s thumb presses harder into the paper, crinkling it under the weight of the realization.
“Well. Actually, today, since it's past midnight–yeah, you get the point. But in all the reports and newspapers we've read about Vash, we never came across any celebrations or crazy parties that day. That’s the reason it’s been taking us longer to write this report. We’ve been trying to catch a trace of Vash in that time range in our archive, but it's weird. There's no mention of any Vash-related activity during that week…” Wolfwood silently watches her as she starts to mumble details to herself.
So. Vash hates his birthday.

Summary
Nicholas D. Wolfwood is hardly what one would call a connoisseur of literature. As far as he’s concerned, it sorts itself nicely into three buckets: smart books, scripture, and drivel. He avoids the first on principle, finds himself unwillingly dragged through the second more often than not, and dabbles in the third if the fancy strikes.
The book that’s caught his eye presents a conundrum he wasn’t prepared to confront at 10 AM on a bright, already-roasting Tuesday morning. He’s been left unsupervised in a general store while Vash takes care of some do-gooder something or other, and his boredom had him gravitating to the rack of double-dime novels tucked in the back corner. The drivel selection is top-tier. Most of the books he can open at random and land on something both intriguingly salacious and horrendously written, and Wolfwood has spent a solid fifteen minutes gleefully paging through paperbacks with covers featuring washboard abs and heaving bosoms before he spots the book that’s going to ruin his life.

Summary
Knives hasn't seen him like this before – visibly struggling with control, hands shaking slightly, his entire body tightly wound and aching for a fist. Wolfwood is all laconic answers, full lips curled into a smirk or around a cigarette, sharp-tongued and saying absolutely nothing of substance; in dubious control of his life, but certainly in control of his body. Knives has heard him lose control, the low throaty rasp of his growl carrying through the walls, a bass under Vash's cries. But this, the barely veiled flash of teeth, the way he looms over the cashier – uninvolved but with the misfortune of being an alpha, reeking of fear and submission – is new.
