Summary
The subject somehow catches them looking through the glass, and her eyes light up- a sickly green. The occult runes peeking through her ripped hospital gown, so crudely carved into her skin, are the only things not glowing, a calming portion of darkness against the harsh light.
She grins at them. Her mouth is red, blood and guts lining her teeth from the last time they had made her interrogate a prisoner.
(Or: Lydia is a weapon for the United States government, Barbara accidently adopts a demon, and nothing is quite as it seems.)

“The flu ?” He asks incredulously, nearly pushing the Maitlands over in order to get closer to Lydia. “What the fuck , how did she get the flu?”
“Probably from school, it is flu season after all,” Adam says, giving Beetlejuice a strange look.
“Shit, shit!” Beetlejuice says, pulling at his hair, which is flickering between red and purple at an impressive rate. “I’m going to burn down that fucking school!” He shouts. Barbara shoots him a withering glare and shushes him, gesturing to Lydia, who began making small noises of discomfort when Beetlejuice began shouting. He stares at her for a few seconds. She looks tiny in her overlarge pajamas, hair plastered to her forehead with sweat. She looks young in a way Beetlejuice often forgets she is. It isn't exactly like he spends a lot of time with teenagers. Most people he had known when he was alive died by the time they reached sixteen.
Lydia is fifteen.
Or, when Lydia comes down with a bad case of the flu, Beetlejuice is reminded of how sickness ravaged children when he was alive. He hasn't exactly been kept up to date on modern medicine, so he assumes the worst.
