Clive's breathing is uneven, staggered exhales brushing across Joshua's lips where they rest a mere inch from his own. A gloved hand reaches up to rest against a scarred cheek, thumb caressing the swell of it, and Joshua lets out a soft chuckle.
"Because we are brothers? In that case, why not as Shield and Margrave? Is it not your sworn duty, Clive, to protect and attend to the one he calls master?"

In the heat of summer, Clive and Joshua read in bed.
“Do you want to keep reading?”
“Yes,” Joshua tilted his head forward and Clive felt the tremble of him stretching his arms. He then pushed his book to the side of the bed.
“Just—let me get comfortable.”
Joshua lifted himself from where he was mostly seated on the bed, to into Clive’s lap proper. He maneuvered Clive’s legs around himself until he got the hint to cross them, allowing Joshua to no longer have to cross his own and to stretch his legs out. He pressed back against Clive until he was flush against his chest, his rear right on Clive’s crotch. Clive stilled for a moment, and cleared his throat. During the day he’s wound taut, one thing or another always running through his head and keeping tension in his muscles, but when he’s asleep - oh yes, when he’s asleep his defenses melt away. All the hard edges smooth out, his body goes all loose and pliant, and his mind mellows into the background.
Venom loves when Eddie sleeps, and he does it for hours at a time. Sometimes even eight or nine. Nine whole hours, and Venom has its host’s warm body right there to explore.

The maid smiles to herself as she approaches her lord’s chambers, the door slightly ajar, ready to see the pair most likely holding each other in sleep. So inseparable, they are. She had never seen two brothers so close.
She is just about to gently rap her knuckles at the door for entry, quietly, lest she wake them if they were asleep, when a soft sound stops her. There is a sigh, or perhaps a groan was more apt, maybe in pain—or not. Gentle words are spoken, too quiet to hear. A slick, shifting sound. Concerned, she peeks through the door.

“You want to dance with me?” Clive gives his brother a lopsided smile. “I’m afraid I’m terribly out of practice.” Not that he needs any encouragement. After all, he’s never been able to deny Joshua anything he desires.
To think that the Phoenix would choose him to stay by his side, albeit in a different way than anyone imagined. He may not have inherited the eikon, but he has inherited something greater.
