Summary
Season five fix-it where instead of exotic matter, they find Eddie Munson locked in a Mindflayer cocoon and hooked up to the hivemind on the roof of Hawkins lab.
Hoping that they can bring Eddie back to consciousness and get information on the whereabouts of Vecna, Steve volunteers to enter Eddie's mind, trying to make up for the guilt that's been eating at him ever since he left Eddie's body behind in the Upside Down.
Eddie's mind, of course, is a treacherous place full of riddles and fantasy-inspired worlds that Steve is hardly equipped to navigate. Especially when Eddie, assuming that Steve is a figment of his own imagination, starts flirting with him like there's no tomorrow.
OR: Steve falls in love by seeing ALL of Eddie Munson.

Until the day Eddie woke up and remembered nothing of Steve. His Steve. The Steve that held his hand and cried his eyes out waiting for the moment that Eddie would wake up. His Steve that made him laugh and sing, made him feel like the luckiest, most loved man alive. His Steve that he spent evenings and weekends with, cuddled into god awful plaid sheets with whispers of the words 'I love you' falling from their lips.
Until the day Eddie woke up from his coma and had no idea why Steve "The King" "The Hair" Harrington was there with him and why the absolute fuck he kissed him and called him Eds on his return to the land of the living.

~Eddie slides across the seat, pressing against Steve’s shoulder, “Getting a little twitchy there, Harrington,” he whispers, soft curls brushing lightly against Steve’s neck, “This getting you all hot and bothered?”
Steve should push him away, tell him to fuck off, do something that normal guy friends would do. Instead he finds himself caught in that mesmerizing dark gaze, paralyzed. Eddie blinks, teasing smile fading slightly and Steve’s gaze drifts to the other man’s mouth. Fuck. His lips are a little shiny, like he just had a sip of beer. Steve wants to lick it off of him.~
