    Summary

Once Norman’s chest was bare, he felt her gaze linger on the dense white knots of scar tissue just under his ribcage, spiderweb wrapped tight around the liquefying insect of his criminal history.

“I lost a fight with one of those Lime electric scooters,” Norman said quickly, his tone light, willing her not to take him seriously.

Crozier comes back from a meeting on Erebus, decidedly sober and decidedly irritated, only to find Jopson curled up in his bed, passed out from exhaustion.

    Summary

John Franklin (Library Director) assigns Francis Crozier (Director of User Services, troubleshooter of circulation software, locator of misshelved books, answerer of reference questions, and mainstay of the evening and weekend circulation desk) and James Fitzjames (Director of Technical Services, filler-out of purchase orders, negotiator of software- and ebook-licensing contracts, validator of bibliographic records, and all-around public library budget-stretcher) to work together to plan a volunteer appreciation banquet.

    Summary

Jopson chose his next words carefully, still horrified by what Crozier was suggesting to him. "Captain," he said, firmly. "I will not disobey you, if this is what you order me to do. However, I must ask if there is any other way to resolve this, without relieving the expedition of another captain. You have, by your own admission, ably dealt with your condition for many long years—if you can think of any alternative at all, no matter how impossible, I will do my best to aid you in it, sir."

Crozier hesitated, and Jopson could tell by the way he ran his tongue over his teeth that there was another way, but he despised to propose it. Jopson simply waited, placidly stewing in the knowledge that there was no order Crozier could give that he wouldn't obey. [...]

"There is," Crozier began, slowly, "one other way, but while I loathe to ask you what I already have, the alternative is something I cannot ask of you, Jopson."
    --
Crozier confesses to suffering from lycanthropy, which has led to the deaths of several men, including Sir John. Jopson offers his own body to satisfy the primal hungers of Crozier's beast.

    Summary

"John has… a theory," Hodgson explained, hastily, "that we have been infiltrated by demonic seducers posing as crewmen, and that Sergeant Tozer and Petty Officer Hickey are among them."

    "I see."

"It is not a theory," Irving argued, with a tough of haughtiness. "I can feel that fiend's hellish magics at work on me, and it is imperative that we do something before we simply can't anymore." [...]

"By 'that fiend', you mean Sergeant Tozer?" Little questioned, slowly. His eyes flickered around the room, pensive and calculating, and Irving felt a small spark of hope that he was understanding.

"Yes." Irving tried not to sound exasperated, and failed.

Hodgson and Little exchanged a long look. Irving felt distinctly as if he were missing something.
    --
John Irving is convinced of an infernal scheme being put to work aboard Terror. George Hodgson and Edward Little are not so easily swayed.

Solomon Tozer is just having a very odd week.
