For a moment, Scar thought he saw Grian’s gaze dip again, but with distance between them, and the glare from a lamp on the other man’s glasses, he couldn’t be entirely sure. It made his heart squeeze all the same.
Grian straightened, huffing, “No.”
Scar hesitated. “Are you sure?”
“Positive,” Grian said. He leaned into the couch cushions, his countenance changing with the wave of a hand. His face relaxed, his legs crossed in front of him, and a wide smile split his lips. “You’ll pay for what you’ve done in due time.”

“Scar,” Grian said again, pushing in a little annoyance to his tone. “We have stuff to do, c’mon. Jimmy and Scott are already outside waiting - we don’t wanna leave them out there alone for too long, do we?”
No response. Not even a shift in expression or a twitch of a finger.
He had to be putting it on. There was no way he was this deep of a sleeper - sure, he didn’t wake up to the smallest of sounds like Grian did, usually managing to make it the full night without so much of a peep even in the middle of a goddamn death game, but it was never this difficult to get him up.
Grian’s suspicions were immediately confirmed when Scar puckered his lips.
He knew this game. And, as much as he sort of wanted to play along (void knows under any other circumstances he would’ve), they did not have time. They had a goddamn war to win.
“Scar,” Grian said, again, “now really isn’t the time to be playing princess.”
(Or, in which Scar is a little shit, Grian is fed up but delighted all the same with his shenanigans, and they still both get what they wanted deep down anyway.)

Scar let out a heavy sigh, starting to push away from his desk before pausing for a moment, shaking his head, then leaning forward again, his quill continuing to glide along the parchment. He wasn’t ready yet, surely whoever had come to collect him could wait a few minutes longer. Or a few hours. Or a few years, actually.
It wasn’t as if he didn’t want to go on this trip. He knew just how important it was, and how privileged he was that he got to go on it, but-
Well, it wasn’t quite what he’d been hoping for. For a powerful mage such as himself (or, well - future powerful mage, that is) this was perhaps the most important journey he’d make in his lifetime. His pilgrimage to the Crystal Fountain, the source of magic itself, the very journey he’d spent his entire life working towards. He should be excited. He was excited.
At least, he had been, until he found out that he wasn’t to make the journey alone.
Or, in which the vex prince sets out on a magical journey of a lifetime, and an unassuming avian knight is dragged along for the ride.

Summary
To quote one Mumbo Jumbo, it was quite simple the way it happened. Scar sent a picture on accident, but then it wasn’t quite as accidental when he realized how flustered Grian got.
However, on the other side of the screen Grian hadn’t realized the real reason behind why Scar was sending the pictures or why they made him feel the way he did.
Grian blinked. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, Scar.”
“I was not sending shirtless pictures platonically, G.”
“Oh.”
This is the story in which Scar keeps sending increasingly more suggestive pictures to a Grian that is absolutely incapable of figuring out the meaning behind Scar’s flirting method of choice.
Or, five times Scar sent pictures of himself to flirt with Grian and the one time Grian got him back. Somewhere in there they get together.

He used to be quite anal about his victories, but now he’s had a few close calls. Could it be that his arrows just aren’t what they used to be? Is he firing blanks? I wouldn’t be surprised if his enemies are having to fake their defeat. Of course, HotGuy is far from the only man who struggles to hit the target, so maybe I shouldn’t be so harsh.

This wasn’t the blurry shadow of what may or may not be a rock, or the light of the moon against a wave imitating a town. This was a genuine miracle. This was his relief.

Scar studies him. Glances at the feathers curtaining his view of the throne room's entrance, then slides his gaze back to Grian's dancing eyes. Fighting a losing battle is difficult enough; fighting one you've lost before it's even begun is impossible. "Yeah, alright," he says, resigned to the tendrils of fondness cinching thorny vines around his heart. "Let's hear it."
Another flash of teeth, dyed red in the light spilling through Grian's feathers. "The 'Not A Resistance' Resistance," he says, low and teasing, "would like to cordially invite you to kiss me stupid." He lets that simmer in the shred of air between them before tacking on, measured and thoughtful: "This is a time-sensitive invitation, by the way, so you should figure out your answer in the next ten to fifteen seconds."

Summary
"Dude, quit squirming!" Scar's laugh starts as a deep, bright rumble in the pit of his stomach, soaring from his throat to punch the air in short, ribboned strokes, each a brilliant star between them. The air here is warm, dazed, an illuminated snow globe— except the globe is his tree, and the snow drifts in downy feathers outside it, forming an intricate latticework of frostbitten fingers that crawl up the sides of his windows.
They’d retreated here an hour ago— once their impromptu snowball fight with Doc had transcended from three hermits to thirteen— all shivers and chattering teeth, drenched to the bone. Now, with the fire stoked, sweaters both discarded and exchanged, neither one of them can ignore how the bedraggled wreck of Grian’s feathers are in desperate need of preening.
"You're doing this on purpose!" Grian's retort is tart, but it lacks true bite, curling high as a silver wisp of smoke. "Sto— stop it, Scar, stop trying to tickle me—!"
