Summary
Tom had never known himself to be a brave man, before the skitters came.
He stands in front of a ship of aliens, alone but for Weaver at his side, and it is Tom’s name that they call out. He is the one that they call, which is odd because he is not the leader of the group. They have the leader right there, next to him, and yet still, Tom is the one that they beckon to speak.

Summary
“It’s hot as balls out here,” Jack complains loudly, and Robby rolls his eyes at him.
“This was your fucking idea, brother, stop whining,” he says sternly, and then throws a cold beer his way anyway.
“You’re the one who was complaining about the lack of vitamin D,”
“I didn’t want you to do anything about it!”
Jack grins, wide and cheeky, like a schoolboy. “Sounds to me like that was your mistake.”

Summary
“Some things can’t be changed, like death. Death can’t be changed,” Duke says lightly, because intensity is the one thing that is bound to scare Robby off.
“Hey, I know the surgery’s scary, but-“
Duke almost smiles, the motion of it feeling wry on his lined skin, and meets Robby’s worn brown eyes squarely. “I’m not talking about me.”

Summary
“Have you ever thought about hurting yourself?”
Al-Hashimi’s voice is soft and sympathetic, and it cuts through Robby like he’s butter. It feels like she’s taken a magnifying glass and turned the sun to smoulder inside his heart, burning up like his flesh is dry driftwood, kindling for a flame. He’s been desperately putting out the fire all day; what right does she have to hurt him like this?

“You don’t think I can take care of you?” Jack says, standing right behind Robby, almost whispering it into his ear.
Robby closes his eyes, and wonders when he lost control of his own damn department.

Summary
From the (West Wing) parable:
A man falls in a hole.A priest passes him by, throws him a prayer, and leaves. A doctor passes by, writes him a prescription, and leaves. A friend passes by and hears his cries, and jumps into the hole with him.
The man says 'what are you doing, now we're both stuck down here!'
The friend says 'ah, but I've been here before. I know the way out.'

Summary
Five weeks and three days since Rebecca's death, Tom feels a familiar pulse of pain in his head. He grits his teeth and says a prayer—he can't afford this right now—but really, he's made it longer than he expected. Whatever he's tried to tell himself, it was always bound to happen. His father never did anything halfway.
Tom had just hoped it wouldn't happen at a time like this—crouched with Dai in the inky shadows of a bombed out barber shop while mechs groan and stomp just yards away, shaking the earth and sending showers of dust from the skeletal rafters to blanket their heads and taunt their noses with the threat of disastrously-timed sneezes.
In which Tom runs out of his migraine medication. Pre-series.

Robby swallowed. His throat worked around the shape of several truths he did not want to handle without anesthetic.
“I thought leaving would fix something,” he said finally.
Jack’s mouth tightened. “How’s that working out?”

Summary
Jack's first Fourth of July after being honourably discharged didn't go well, but over the years, as he went to therapy and handled his PTSD, he began to love the holiday. It was his day to blow shit up and cook lots of meat. However, this year, he's put on the schedule to work at the ER and everyone tries to make him feel better. Except for Robby. Robby's just having fun watching Jack get more and more confused.

Summary
They passed the joint back and forth, Jack taking a couple of hits for every one of Robby’s. On one particular trade off, Jack grimaced as he pulled in, he exhaled smoke as he said, “Jesus, you got the tip all spitty.”
Robby snorted as he absentmindedly looked up at the sky, “My mouth being wet has never been an issue for you before.”
Mohan’s head tilted to the side, McKay’s jaw dropped, Donnie hit Ahmad on the arm with his elbow (he had a long shot bet about them two).
Of course, Trinity would be the only one confrontational and bold enough to just ask, “Wait, are you two…?”
-
Jack and Robby's casual relationship is revealed and picked apart over the course of a single joint.
