"They shall be named Maleficar, accursed ones" is how the Chant of Light set the terms of how most of Thedas viewed mages, so when an Earthling has been bestowed the gift of magic she has to hide

And life was going well until the future Inquisitor came.

It's years before the events of the game and Alaine is determined to do one thing, find Arthur Morgan and save his life. If she is able to save his life then she may be able to keep the events of the first game from ever happening. But it is not as simple as she thought it would be.
