Ilya wanted his happy ever after, his HEA. He had had enough of “happy for now.” He felt so close. He was on a winning streak with his team, which included his husband. He had a dog and parents who came to their games in shirts stitched together, the backs reading Hollanov. He was so close, he could almost taste the Cup, the champagne. So when he wakes up one fateful morning in a bedroom that’s so familiar but also so far from his own, he can’t help but wonder what cruel fate the gods have given him this time.

Ilya gets swapped with an Ilya from an alternate universe where Scott didn't win the cup in 2017, there are no out gay NHL players and they didn't go to the cottage together. Oh and Shane gets stuck with AU Ilya.
