“No post on Sundays” Uncle Vernon announced happily, “No damn letters today-”
Something came whizzing down the kitchen chimney as he spoke and caught him sharply on the back of the head. The next moment, thirty or forty letters came pelting out of the fireplace like bullets.
“That does it!” he snapped, his beady little eyes focused solely on Harry, “It’s you that they want. And they won’t stop coming after us until you’re… gone”.
Harry didn't like the sound of that.
“But Vernon, we can’t! You heard what that- that despicable old man told us!”
“Don’t worry, pet” Vernon said, his nasty grin triumphant, “I’ll leave him someplace so far away that those freaks will never trace him back to us. There’s an institute up north, for these- these hopeless cases and whatnot - St Brutus's Secure Centre for Boys. I’ll leave him there, and then we can get back to our nice, normal life”.Or, the one where Harry doesn't attend Hogwarts in first year but finds his way to the wizarding world anyway, and this changes everything.

On Ch.111: April, 1997 - Part 1
Basically, AU where the war becomes political instead of violent. Friendship, politics, very independent and conniving Harry. Dumbledore is manipulative and his relationship with Harry is turbulent, but no bashing. Somewhat whitewashed Tom and Death Eaters. Slow burn because it takes 77 chapters for them to meet, but once they do, the chemistry is through the roof. They immediately like each other on a personal level, but they are still adversaries, so it's a super fun and flirty chess match of a relationship. -

On Part Two - To Grow a Heart, Ch.50: Between Death and Dream
Runes prodigy Harry is abused by the Dursleys, and while it’s a setup for some hurt/comfort and an excuse to have Tom be act protective, the depiction of mental health issues is mature and realistic. A lot of the fic is focused on unpacking both Harry and Tom’s trauma. I particularly loved the contrast between Harry, who’s emotions are fresh, raw and uncontrolled vs Tom who’s had the time to understand himself better and make peace with some things that happened to him but is still undeniably affected by his past. Their developing bond feels very genuine and heartwarming. -

On Ch.21
Post 5th year. With dying Dumbledore’s blessing, embodied ring horcrux and Harry go horcrux hunting. Hits a lot of late HBP and DH plot points, but with new and interesting spins. A well-paced character-driven read. Dumbledore, Tom and Harry and their interpersonal dynamics all feel very true to their characters. Tom not a is a ball of teenage angst and rage, and so is Harry, but they are good for each other. Tom is down faster than he cares to admit. -

Summary
Lord Voldemort pushed through with all magic and rage and apparated while following that pull of magic inside him that screamed Harry Potter.
He landed in the middle of a bright, sunlit street filled with almost identical houses in a suffocating muggle place. Voldemort turned around, hissing at a child playing in their garden and making her run inside with a scream that might have delighted him any other day.
His official return to the wizarding world was supposed to be dramatic, planned to perfection as the historical moment it was. Now his first official sighting was scaring children like some common ruffian. As always; his plans were utterly destroyed by Harry fucking Potter.
OR
After Nagini's attack on Mr Weasley in 5th year, Harry sneak off and steal the Prophecy without anyone noticing.
Instead, Harry is safely behind the wards on Privet Drive when Voldemort realise he has the prophecy.

On Ch.10: Food for thought
Unbeknown to both Voldemort and the Order, Harry steals the prophecy sometime during 5th year. When the battle in DoM doesn’t happen, Voldemort instead puts Privet Drive under siege. He or his Death Eaters cannot attack any local muggles, and are forced to just camp there, which is hilarious. Voldemort sends the Malfoys to infiltrate the muggles. Harry is a little chaos gremlin. He talks to Voldemort through the wards, and Voldemort slowly grows to respect him. Abusive Dursleys/Dudley redemption. Comedy with plot. -

On Ch.32
My Roman Empire. Obsessive Tom and sassy, cool and competent Harry who is hilariously unimpressed by Tom's objective scariness. The relationship is undoubtedly unhealthy, but both Tom and Harry are so mature and self-aware about their own shortcomings, it somehow circles back to seeming perfectly harmonious. Sharp and witty writing with some of the funniest dialogue/banter I’ve ever read. Lowkey office boss/secretary romance.
