jake leaned back into his chair like some sort of bond villain and raised one eyebrow. ‘‘so, you want my attention, huh?’’ his right hand left the keyboard in order to grasp my waist. i took a step in his direction, but it felt more like sleepwalking than me making a conscious choice. this interaction might’ve started innocently enough, with my genuine desire for him to get some sleep, but this was undoubtedly going in a different direction. and i’m not complaining one bit. ‘‘you could’ve just said so from the beginning.’’
‘‘oh, but i thought you liked riddles.’’ i teased, gingerly perching myself on his lap and cupping his jaw with my hands.
