The question is routine by now, asked every single day since 1989. The answer is too, Bill waving away Eddie’s concern with a smile that crinkles his eyes. “Yeah, I’m good. You know m-m-m-me.”
That’s the problem, Eddie thinks, watching him go. I do know you.

Summary
The curtains in Peter’s room are heavy and dark enough to block out any sun that fights its way through the thick leaves of the oak tree outside of his window, and there isn’t a minute that passes that he doesn’t want to tear them down.
They’re too thick. Too rough. His room is always shrouded in shadow, no matter how sunny it is outside, and he’s not strong enough to pull the thick canvas aside so that he can see into his neighbors’ yard.
He wants to be able to sit at his window and watch them play with their half-deflated soccer ball, the kids who live in the house to his right. Their walls are brick and mortar and moss and white chalk drawings that wash off in the rain, and their curtains are light- his window is right across from one of theirs- the little boy’s, he thinks.
Blond-haired and blue-eyed and tall, both the boy and the girl (she’s younger than both her brother and Peter, he thinks, but probably not by too much) stare at him whenever he goes outside to watch the birds or play with his toy trucks.
Aunt May and Uncle Ben call them the Keeners.

Not with Damian already on top of him. “That innocent act doesn’t work on me, Jon. You really think I don’t know that you’re fast enough to stop me? To make sure I don’t see anything you don’t want me to?” Jon stays frozen, the flush of embarrassment enough to keep him quiet. “The real question is, why are you letting me do it?”

Summary
On an objective level, emotions are a weakness to be exploited. Damian has been trained to be nothing but a weapon, and weapons aren’t supposed to feel. On an objective level, he knows this. On a deeper, more primal level that he didn’t think died so much as never existed in the first place, he has always been a broken blade from the day he was born.
Is it any wonder that he’d slip up, in the end?
