In an ideal situation, they'd spend some time alone, maybe go on a few small adventures. Take it slow. Rediscover what drew them to each other in the first place.

Despite all the unanswered emails, the years of silence, and the total absence of news... Gon will greet him with open arms, a radiant smile on his face. He’ll ask how Killua’s doing, like they’d only seen each other yesterday, then suggest playing a game or going out for fun.
Killua isn’t scared of things changing—he’s scared they’ll stay the same.

Summary
An icy blue gaze looked up at him, challenging him with all the rage someone under five foot two could muster. The child glared up at his caretaker, his chest heavy with angry breath before he flinched – just a little. His glare didn’t falter immediately, but within moments Kurapika saw the boy’s chest begin to heave, and that was all the warning given before Killua clambered to the left, threw open the lid of the toilet and immediately vomited noisily into the bowl.
Or, Kurapika has to take care of a sick, traumatized Killua while Leorio is out. He doesn't really know what he's doing, but he's trying his best.
Killua has too much pain for a child of his size.

Just the thought of school and tests, and grades filled him with dread so heavy it glued him to the floor. Shou knew that Ritsu wanted a chance, an opportunity to not have to hold himself to the standard of perfection.
“Yeah sure, but if you really didn't wanna you would’ve just told me no from the start. You’re just trying to convince yourself not to leave with me.”

Shou finds Serizawa sitting at the dining room table doing some math homework. The kitchen smells like cooked rice. He leans awkwardly close to Serizawa’s face to get his attention and speaks loudly into his ear.
“Do you ever feel like a frog?”
Serizawa jolts up from his math homework, startled. Then, he breaks into a smile.

Shou feels bad and doesn't know how to bring it up. But there's no better way to convey his feelings than by confusing Serizawa with a series of increasingly complicated and opaque metaphors for his emotional state.

Summary
Many passerines have what ornithologists call a “sensitive period” during the first few weeks of their life, where they are primed for vocal development and learn their own species song via observation of, most often, the father. If you didn’t care about the ethical concerns, you could kidnap and drop a hatchling in an echo chamber, feed it ground up worm pellets and clean up its excrement from routinely sterilized projections in the walls, build it a nest from PETE hair bristles and aluminum foil. With nothing to pluck its neurons beyond the sound of its own wails, it never learns to correctly sing. If it was lucky, it may attempt a delicate, babbling sub-song it picked up from its father, or even struggle through the plastic skeleton of an entire motif, but it would never sound 100% right. Not to its conspecific bird, and not to itself.
