The girl glares daggers at him from behind a pair of red-rimmed glasses too big for her tiny face. She’s looking at him like he’s totally crazy, which isn’t entirely untrue. “Huh? Who the heck are you?”
In lieu of answering, he asks, “What’s your name?”
The girl scowls. “Maki.”
“Maki,” he repeats, and it’s like a missing piece of his soul falls back into place. The record of his life before he fought the Six-Eyes brat is a long, impossibly white scroll of nothing -- but written on it in faint letters is the name of a child, a child with a delicate name that brushed the heavens, spun a prayer into letters; a name that began with an M, and it ended in i, too.
“Maki,” he says again. “I think you’re my daughter.”

It was a strange feeling, this deep desire to protect Dazai. She remembers what she used to think when she saw him for the first time. She looked at that odd and dislocated boy and saw nothing but death, a concept so strange that it attracted and repelled Yosano simultaneously.
But when she looked into his eyes one more time, she realized that the feeling she had for him was neither one of repulsion nor one of hatred.
It was like looking in a mirror, a reflection of her younger self. How could she possibly hate him when they were both made of the same stuff?It really didn't matter anymore.
He would be fine, after all, he was hers to love and protect.

She thinks it's sort of reminiscent of when she used to beat his ass into the ground during their training sessions. Her ordering him what to do, him gazing back at her. There had at least been some spark in him then, some desire to fight back. Now, his expression is glassy, listless. He shrugs one shoulder.
“Worst case scenario,” Yuuta says quietly. “And it won’t come to that anyway. Gojo-sensei won’t lose.”
