Just like anyone with two eyes, he noticed her very obvious crush months ago and he spent hours during their travel together teasing her about it, so sure she had a chance. But, well. He was wrong.
“What happened?” he asks in that concerned voice she rarely hears outside of mission and she’d have shrugged if her ribs weren’t covered with a lousy patch of tape to fix her skin close. With slow movements, she puts on the shirt he gave her and once she feels a bit more like a normal person, she says, “Nothing happened. You know Cassian as well as I do. I tried and I failed.”-*-*-

It began right after they’d gotten married, the exchange of letters, real letters, paper in an envelope and everything. Jyn was the one who suggested it, because paper could be easier to obtain than wifi in some places or a reliable signal. “Think of it as a journal,” she said to him. “Just you, me, and the paper.”
Cassian had taken her hands in his, lightly circling her wrists. “What should I write?”
“Whatever you want,” Jyn said. “What you ate for lunch, how the work is going.” She looked slyly at him from under her lashes. “Whatever dreams you had about me the night before.”
Cassian didn’t blush exactly, but the tips of his ears did go a bit pink. She loved to see it, one of his little tells only she knew. “You want…” the corners of his mouth twitched as he tried valiantly to keep a straight face. “You want me to write...dirty letters to you?”

Summary
Making it off of Scarif puts Jyn and Cassian on a journey they never would have expected. The future was theirs to take and on the path of self discovery and healing, physically and mentally, they find that there was more to hope than just founding rebellions; there was peace. With the destruction of the Death Star, the Rebellion has the advantage and they'll do what they can to help, even if that means sitting still for awhile.
But when Davits Draven visits Cassian, with regards from Mon Mothma, asking him to go on a field mission after years of being off active duty, Jyn learns quickly that peaceful futures don't necessarily include spending it with the one you thought would always be there...
