If newborn dragon hatchlings are abandoned for any particular reason (the mother could've been killed, certain species of dragons bury their eggs in the sand to fend for themselves once they hatch, etc), they will immediately adapt to the environment so that their chances of survival are guaranteed. Summary
Voldemort's defeat makes Harry a dangerous individual and the Wizarding World has always been fickle. Their world is a mess, but no one seems to want to deal with it.
Initially Harry tries to train to be an Auror, but either people are determined to challenge him for every inch or they hero-worship him too much to ever be honest with him. Not sure which is worse, and suddenly struggling to control an immense magical core, Harry retreats from society to try and figure himself out.
To a desperate, afraid, cowardly people this is seen as a betrayal and Harry is forever tainted by association with the Dark Lord no matter his defeat. They turn on him once more and Harry vanishes into the wilds of Scotland to escape, feared and hunted despite everything he sacrificed for them.
Alone and despairing of a world that can turn their backs so easily on the one who literally died for them, there is very little for Harry to leave behind. Chased by the newest set of bounty-hunters, he comes across a strange portal, something very like the Veil, through which he can see a Hogwarts that is not his. Sick of this world he leaps at the second chance and into another dimension.

Author's Note: This is an OLD story of mine that I started to write, got 17 chapters in, and then got total Writer’s Block, and never went back to it. I was going through my files, and found this story, and reread through it. And I decided… hey, I could publish this “Evil Author’s Day” style. And then Evil Author’s Day came, and I forgot about the idea to publish this on that day. Recently I went back to this story, remembered what my plans were, and I decided “to hell with it”.
So over the next three weeks or so, I’m going to publish a chapter a day (the first two chapters in one day as I usually do). But there are NO PROMISES that I will come back to it or finish it. I am still doing this Evil Author’s Day style. Meaning: I’m giving you the whole thing (in the span of three weeks, NOT one day), without the promise that I’ll come back to it.
