Summary
There’s no question that Henry is the love of her little brother’s life. He’s perfect for him, if June’s being honest: handsome, calm, generous, genuine. He’s even got a pretty good sense of humor underneath all of the etiquette.
The only problem is that she’s never heard of a Henry Fox before; hadn’t even known that Alex finally figured that part of himself out; and the only problem is that she’s met him by accident in the middle of a hospital waiting room, with her brother's life in an unknown limbo on the other side.

Summary
As she gets closer, Tim is immediately drawn to her wide brown eyes; they are broadcasting her emotional state for everyone to see — some combination of eager and excited and nervous. The polar opposite of the cool and guarded expression he is careful to keep on his own face.
Angela turns to look at him, clearly trying to gauge his reaction before she whacks him with her bouquet and hisses, “That is your soon-to-be wife, Tim, not your new boot, so maybe chill out with the death glare. You shouldn’t be trying to intimidate her.”
Tim ignores her; he begs to differ. This woman is supposed to be his wife. Chosen by supposed experts to be his life partner, his perfect other half. He is sure as hell going to be assessing whether she measures up to his standards. The fact that he already knows all of this is bullshit honestly just makes him that much more inclined to prove it.
When she reaches the end of the aisle, she stops in front of him and tilts her head to smile up at him in this sweet, hopeful way that he simultaneously finds incredibly endearing and incredibly irritating — like he holds her fate in his hands, and she is counting on him not to f*ck it up.

The first thing Lucy Chen sees when she opens her eyes is the police badge...The second thing that catches Lucy’s eye are his hands, which, once he brings them back together, are clasped so tightly that his knuckles press white through sun-tanned skin. His hands are broad, and he is sitting close enough that she can see small scars crisscrossing the backs of them here and there, close enough that she can see the way the light catches the light hair on his muscular forearms, propped against his knees. The light catches the hair on his head, too, which seems dirty blonde, maybe light brown if not in this lighting, but he is, and so his head is haloed in gold. The overall effect is one of gilding; he looks like he is made of something precious... Whoever this man is, it seems he has been waiting here a while. Waiting on her. With a badge.

Lucy get amnesia after an assault during a manhunt. She doesn't remember anything that's happened in the past five years...including joining the LAPD and meeting Tim. He remembers everything.

Summary
When Tim will try to remember this day, after this day, there will be blanks. Like the day Mitch lost his leg. Like the first time a civilian died in front of him. Like that one particularly bad time with his dad. There wasn’t a pattern to what stayed and what went, he had learned. Some things, the brain clung to, even if he would rather forget them. Other things, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t recall. So he doesn’t remember, after this day, what he and Chen were talking about in the shop as they rolled up to the scene. He doesn’t remember arriving after the suspect had already been secured, so they thought, or turning back to the shop.
Angela has had to tell him about how she called out “gun!” when the suspect they thought was secure reached for a weapon they hadn’t realized he had on him.
He and Lucy fit their patchwork memories together, like the worst kind of puzzle pieces, and so she’s the one who tells him about how they both drew their weapons as the first shot rang out.
OR
Lucy gets shot on duty and Tim does *not* take it well.

His full attention slides her, but all previous frustration he felt is momentarily eclipsed by something else.She’s been crying. It’s written all over her face, plain as day. Her eyes are red and glassy, the faint puffiness beneath them in addition to her slightly pink nose making her look far more vulnerable than he’s used to seeing. Even her posture betrays her; she’s standing too stiffly, her arms wrapped tightly around her midsection as though she’s holding herself together by sheer will alone.
Angela might actually have a point.
If he didn’t feel bad enough before, he sure does now.

She angles her head so she’s looking directly up into his eyes, and she immediately notices the tension under her fingers as her left hand comes to rest on his chest. She freezes, suddenly realizing the precariousness, the novelty, of their sudden closeness. Her instinctual need to comfort and reassure him has completely overridden the logical and mortified voice in the back of her head demanding to know what she thinks she is doing, begging her to abort and get the hell out of that garage.
OR
Tim’s confrontation with Mack’s wife, Beth, leads to him doubting himself and eventually to an emotional and mutually vulnerable moment with Lucy that finally brings some feelings to the surface.

Alex nods. “So . . .” He trails off, the information still processing. It’s a bit like his mind is buffering as he makes sense of it. It’s so little information, yet so much all at once. Like someone’s thrown an encyclopedia at his head and given him a cliff notes explanation expecting him to know it word for word. “That would mean—I’m dating James Bond?” He blinks, sitting up straight. “Oh my god,” he exclaims with sudden realization. “I’m a Bond Girl.”

Summary
Three weeks before Henry Fox's tour for his fourth, highly anticipated, awards-bait novel A Brief War in December begins, his publicist Janella breaks her foot on a bunny slope at Windham.
Alex can't be mad at her, even though he kind of is. Saying it out loud would be like kicking her when she was down, and she already went down a literal mountain in the worst way possible.
Now crammed in Rafael Luna's corner office, Janella is shooting Alex extremely apologetic looks while slumped on her crutches, wearing a bright orange cast. The conversation about who is going to be joining Henry Fox on his multi-city trek across the U.S. is also going downhill. Alex is feeling the same sort of free fall while standing still.
Because out of all the publicists available in their tiny underfunded department, the only one left to escort their company's best-selling author is regrettably him.
The problem is, well, Alex absolutely hates Henry Fox.
Or: Alex is the publicist for Mountchristen Publishers, and is stuck on a two-week tour with their best-selling, but frustrating, author Henry Fox.

Alex swallows audibly, eyes darting all over Henry’s face. “Your Ro— Henry.” And oh, that’s the timbre with which Henry wants to hear his name come out of Alex’s mouth; it’s low and a little frantic, and it tugs at something in Henry’s navel. “I’m twice your age.”
“Do you think I’m twenty?”
“Jesus Christ, I rounded for dramatic effect.” Alex fixes him with a look that’s half frustration, half something Alex is trying very hard not to let show. The thing is, though, that Henry became an expert at covert glances and hidden signals during his time at Oxford, and he’d bet his entire ridiculous Crown allowance that Alex wants him as badly as he wants Alex.
Or, Alex is a senator; Henry is a prince who knows exactly what he wants.
