Summary
The fallout from the CMS job is brutal for Clyde Logan; here he is, stuck in prison, and his brother threw away everything he’d risked himself for, leaving him nothing but a criminal record to show for his pains. Mellie steps up to take care of her brother, and in the process of moving his things from the trailer to her house, she makes a surprising discovery: a shoebox full of letters.
During his tours in Iraq, Clyde signed up for a penpal service as a way to cope with the loneliness and stress of being in such danger so far from home. As luck would have it, he got a penpal named Rey, a secondary school student in England. As his luck would have it, he lost contact with her due to the explosion that also cost him his hand.
Sometimes, though, life just takes the long way.

Han eyed his son in the rearview mirror as he pulled into the parking lot at High Rollers. He could wave it off and tell the princess he wasn't worried, he could shrug it off and try to convince Chewie at the garage he wasn't worried, he could act to Ben as if he wasn't worried, but Han was worried--for a number of reasons. The first reason, or perhaps just the most superficial (and hopefully the least applicable) was that this rollerdrome had been around since he had been a kid. In fact, it had been at a roller disco night here many years ago that he'd met his princess. Meaning, he knew exactly what used to go on in the bathrooms, behind the building, and even sometimes in a booth at the snack bar, and the thought of Ben being involved in any of it made him twitchy. Ben wasn't too young to knock someone up, unfortunately, and Han was definitely too young to be a grandfather.
A little deeper down, he was worried about Ben. Ben had never been the most coordinated child even before puberty had hit him like a runaway semi. Han was pretty sure Ben wasn't actually skating. So why was he going to skating parties?

Clive had done so much for them all, it was hard to keep him out of their minds. They missed him, even if he did what he had to to give them, and the future, something better. But they miss him, and they reach out to him with all they have left.
It takes them a while to realize he's reaching out to them as well.
