There was no hope.

Summary
For eons uncounted the world of Apokolipse stood strong, vile and cruel, uncontested. For time untold Darkseid stood alone at the apex of Hell itself. Setting his eyes upon the shadow of the Bat, he would have the prize for himself and none would stop him. The New God of Apokolipse would have his Devil at his side, the left hand of a god, The Justice League and all their cloying be damned. As for Superman the road not traveled is fading fast, it's now or never, no matter the strictures of command and the trauma that dictated the chasm between them. No more running, no more hiding, no more pushing each other away, as now they may be pulled apart forever beneath the wings of eagles.

In the ruins of downtown Metropolis a LexCorp weapon just detonated. The sky is red, buildings are rubble and smoke, there's more fire than anything else. Civilians are being pulled from rubble left & right, kid's crying for parents, dogs barking, and screams. So many screams. But in the action what happened to Batman, the man who was in the direct blast, the self sacrificing idiot that Clark may just harbor feelings for?
