But there was that text from Kevin. That distracted him long enough to get caught by his brother in the first place. That caused an argument which spiraled out of control so badly Jeremy is now sitting in the car with a black eye that’s threatening to shut and prevent him from driving.

It’s only when Jeremy ties back his hair to start warming up, and Jean is given the additional context of four ovular bruises in a line down the curve of Jeremy’s neck, on the opposite side to the jaw bruise, that he realises what that is — a handprint.
