“Be my apprentice,” Icarus blurted.
Tommy blinked. Gradually, the corners of his mouth dropped into the deepest frown he’d ever made. “What the fuck? Why?”
“Why?” Icarus froze and Tommy raised a judgemental eyebrow. “It’s because of your powers.”
“My powers,” he echoed. “I never told you whether or not I had powers.”
“I can… sense them,” Icarus bullshitted. Tommy pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Right. What are they, then,” he retorted.
“Uh… super… powers,” the villain answered, sounding more unsure of himself by the second.
Tommy wanted to bash his head against a wall. “Really? That’s the best you could do?”

Tommy isn’t sure why handing someone their keys is such a big deal, but now he’s left with a huge problem: Every supervillain in the city wants him to be their apprentice!

Or: Tommy’s life gets turned a little more into Minecraft every time he dies. Good thing he lives in the lower districts and is a vigilante.

In the long list of rules that Dream gave him, there were four that stuck out as the most important. Four rules that he could never break.
Stick close to the island when swimming. Always be back before seven. Never complain or hesitate to give Dream his pelt. And never, ever interact with humans.
Tommy didn’t break any of those rules often, and if he did it was a one time thing, a mistake. But this wasn’t a mistake. This was a very deliberate, very stupid move on his part and Dream would kill him if he knew what Tommy was doing. Fifteen years Tommy had lived here, and never once had he intentionally broken one of Dream’s rules. Until now.
He swims closer to the three humans.

"How's your flat?" Wilbur asks. "Still no luck with the heating?"
"You know I can't afford it." Tommy mutters, stirring a spoon around in his cup of coffee.
"I could help you with it." Wilbur offers.
Tommy politely shakes his head. "No, don't worry about it. I don't plan to stay here much longer."
The way he says it, he thinks, might set off alarm bells in Wilbur's head. (Tommy prays that it does, prays to Prime that Wilbur notices his tone, notices his exhaustion and just asks him to go with him. He prays that Wilbur will care just enough to do something about it.)
Wilbur doesn't make any comment about it.
(Something inside Tommy cracks at that. Maybe this is it.)

Tommy's only 16, he shouldn't have all of these responsibilities. His landlord is shit, he doesn't get paid enough to afford groceries and he's so fucking tired. He just wants someone to see his struggles, he wants someone to care for once.

Techno was about to go on a murdering spree himself in about 30 seconds if these stupid 'intelligence' agents didn't start intelligenting.

Techno is a hero who has been through a lot of shit. He does /not/ jump at the child's(?) voice suddenly in his earcom.

Oh screw it. Techno took one glance at the dark alleyway to his left, shrugged, and did what the random child in his ear told him to.

Alternatively: Tommy is such a main character, Tubbo has nothing at all to do with why Tommy keeps running into the SBI trio, and our favourite heroes are just perpetually Confused & Concerned.
