Summary
Somewhere in the back of her mind, she knew she was dreaming. There was an odd glow to the inside of the enclosed wagon that was serving as her private quarters on the journey back from the Great Temples to the province town where she served as one of the sacred. Only the faintest hint of moonlight seeped through the curtains covering the slits in the wagon's walls and the small window on the door.
Moreover, she wasn't alone, and she knew that the contingent of guards would never have let anyone even near the wagon where she slept, such was their zealous devotion to their duty to protect and safeguard her in the name of the Ancient Ones she had been ritually sworn to before she could even speak.
They certainly wouldn't have let so fearsome a being near her without anything less than a full pitched battle.
Though, were she any judge? All would've fallen before the Being before her. She swallowed thickly.
He was beautiful.

Summary
Morpheus, the God of Dreams, takes pity on the King and Queen of Ithaca. Odysseus’s return is many years away, yet his and Penelope’s minds find each other in sleep. It’s both a blessing and a curse, and sometimes all that keeps them going.
Queen Penelope stepped into the dream as easily as crossing a threshold, and with her came the sun, as if Helios's carriage rode atop her billowing black hair. The carnage vanished in her presence, the ground no longer a battlefield but a sloping grassy hill dotted with olive trees. Her bright blue eyes almost glowed, searching the hillside with clear intent.
The King of Ithaca stood, gazing at her as if she were a vision of Aphrodite herself. The blood streaking his face and staining his hands evaporated in the wake of her sunlight, the dead bundle in his arms vanishing with it.
Morpheus stared as well, unable to believe that she stood before them. It was no shaped dream becoming a nightmare, no conjuration of the King’s mind to protect himself. It was her, slipping into his dream as if it were a room in their home. Answering her husband’s desperate cries.

Summary
She trails her fingers over his arms, soothing skin that has known too much salt and sun. Then down to his chest, over the ribs that strained with hunger in foreign lands, down further, until she reaches the scar on his thigh.
She lingers there.
Her thumb brushes the raised seam of it, the mark left behind by a boy too eager for the hunt, a boy on the cusp of legend. He remembers the first time she touched it, years ago—how she'd laughed at the foolishness of joining the hunt for the boar, at the recklessness that had nearly cost him his life before someone else’s war took him from her instead, before years upon years were lost to the sea, to gods and monsters, to the slow erosion of himself.
Now, she says nothing, only traces the line of it with deliberate familiarity. The water ripples with her movements, lapping against his skin, the warmth a contrast to the cool press of her fingers.
He exhales. Catches her hand, steady and knowing.
“I would say I could pick you out of a thousand men,” she murmurs, still eyeing the old wound, “but I imagine half the world could do the same by now.”
