Face flushed, taking shallow breaths, her now wild curls sprawled all over her pillow like a golden halo, hands hidden under the pillow, her neck covered with love bites, it took Regina every inch of restraint to not devour Emma whole. This is all too quick, all consuming, and all she wanted was to let go. For a moment, Regina felt a slight tug on her chest as she realized this was too quick, sudden, rushed. She just met the woman three days ago, for fuck's sake.
But the bond…
Goodness… It's consuming her whole.

She sat at her desk, back hunched, fingers stained faintly with ink and god knows what from a rushed fast food dinner she hadn’t finished. The fries had gone cold. The burger sat, untouched, in its greasy wrapper. Her stomach had given up protesting a few hours ago. Or maybe longer. Time had started bending.
Her head throbbed—low and deep, like a bruise forming behind her eyes. Her throat scratched every time she swallowed, but she chalked it up to the dry air or stress or the fact that she hadn’t slept more than four hours in the past three nights. Maybe five. Maybe two.
Everything blurred at the edges.

JJ’s world shifted the moment two thin lines appeared on the pregnancy test. Ever since then? Chaos.
In between swollen ankles and ridiculously early mornings spent at the foot of the toilet, Will left. He left quietly, without a fuss. No big argument. No explanation. He was there one week, then gone the next. He changed his number and left JJ a lousy, half-assed note. JJ didn’t have time to process it, too busy folding onesies and tending to a crying infant.
So, when Emily Prentiss decided to give her a hand, it seemed foolish to decline. Not when she hadn’t slept in days. Not when her apartment was littered with toys and bottles scattered across the kitchen.
JJ didn’t even realize when her eyes started softening when she looked at Emily. She didn’t realize when her heart made that jump around Emily. But seeing Emily Prentiss—usually sharp and composed —rock her baby with hands so gentle it made JJ hold her breath…it did things to her.
It did things to Emily too.
