Summary
Hanbin pushes off where their chests meet, his hand falling to Zhang Hao’s waist. He’s close, their faces mere inches apart, and he looks at him with stars in his eyes, like Hao hung them in the sky. Zhang Hao hadn’t noticed he was crying, not until he sees the shining trail of tears in his high cheekbones. He thumbs at the wet line, and Hanbin nuzzles his face in his hand, content, relaxing with a sigh. He hugs Zhang Hao again.
"Don't ever leave," and there's a please there, although it's silent.
Zhang Hao can hear it anyway.
Or the moments Zhang Hao thinks Hanbin might also be in love with him.

The surface of Earth is uninhabitable, humanity has retreated to independent city-states in the sky, and poverty is rampant in the city-state of Hwaseong. Zhang Hao doesn’t understand why the literature always talks about fireworks. There are no explosions inside him, no grand revelation, no bombastic feeling of accomplishment. It’s a slow, ever-present burn, it’s a comforting orange-toned light, it’s warmth radiating in the centre of his chest, whenever Hanbin is close, whenever he thinks of him. He wants the hunger in Hanbin’s eyes when he looks him up and down, slow and methodical, like he’s cataloguing every inch of Hao’s body and saving the information for later, his brain picturing every way his hands will touch and grab and hold; he wants Hanbin’s controlled fingers around his waist when they take a water break, tightening around it just so when Hao reaches over to towel his forehead dry, because he likes taking care of Hanbin just as much as he likes being taken care of by him; he wants the way Hanbin will sometimes slide that same hand down and over the swell of his ass and squeeze, because he knows he’s the only one who can.

zhang hao looks over, then turns away again quickly. he reaches a hand out and pushes it against hanbin’s chest until he takes a step back. “are you done?” he asks.
“for now,” hanbin says.
zhang hao crosses his arms, closes his eyes. “what if–” he stops, takes a shaky breath. “what if i didn’t love you?”
eight months later, hanbin and zhang hao find closure.
