Summary
“You know we love you, right?” Hen said, patting his leg.
“Yeah…” Buck said slowly, eyeing Chim warily as he perched on the coffee table, Bobby and Ravi taking the couch across from him.
“So, we’re speaking from a place of love when we say we’re worried about you.”
Buck furrowed his brow at Hen. “Why are you worried about me? I haven’t done anything.”
“That’s sort of why we’re concerned, buddy,” said Chim, clasping his hands together as he leaned forward. “We know it was hard for you when Eddie left.”
“It was hard for everyone,” Buck protested, picking at the price sticker on the back of his book. “We all miss him around here.”
“Yeah, we all curled up in the fetal position in the bunk room when someone finally threw away Eddie’s out-of-date yogurt from the fridge,” Ravi said under his breath, clamping his mouth shut when Bobby cleared his throat.
Or: Buck's coping just fine after Eddie leaves! The 118 and Maddie beg to differ.

Summary
“Now why do you have so many shirtless photos of Eddie on your phone?”
Buck fumbled his cell like an amateur circus juggler at the sound of Hen’s voice, only catching it mere inches from smashing on the ground. He turned around on the station’s loft couch, narrowing his eyes at her delighted grin. “It’s rude to sneak up on people, y’know.”
“How am I sneaking? I spoke three full sentences to you before mentioning the ‘E’ word," Hen replied, biting into her apple. “So… what’s with the half-naked photos of Eddie?”
“He’s not half-naked! He’s got his uniform on,” Buck protested, a flush rising up the back of his neck.
“Hmm, last time I checked we don’t usually attend emergencies wearing only our turnout pants and suspenders,” said Hen, taking another bite of apple with a smirk.
Buck flopped his head back against the couch with a put-upon sigh. “They’re for the firefighter calendar submissions, okay? We’re helping each other out.”
Or: 5 times Buck & Eddie wilfully ignored the underlying tension between them & 1 time they couldn’t, featuring opposite tropes.
Each chapter can also be read as a standalone.

Summary
“M’gonna fight Eddie’s mustache,” Buck said decisively, tongue lolling around mid-air as he attempted to locate the straw in his tequila sunrise.
Chimney lifted his beer bottle in solidarity. “I’ll bring the razor, bro.”
Hen sighed. “Why are we attacking the mustache all of a sudden? I thought you both loved it?”
“B’cause… I wanna peel it back like an apple sticker,” Buck replied almost angrily, taking a big gulp of his drink. “He’s… he’s all like, ooh, look at meeee with my stupid hot nose bangs,” he mocked in a voice nowhere like Eddie and more like Danny Zuko in a high school play of Grease. “Mr Sexy Mustache here to save the fuckin’ day all sexily.”
“Oh,” Chimney said, raising an eyebrow while Hen mouthed ‘nose bangs’ to herself in disgust. “Yeah, we’re in very different fight clubs.”
Or: 5 times Buck & Eddie were being ridiculous about each other, and 1 time they were made aware of their shared nonsense.

Summary
The day had begun as normal – or as normal as it could currently be, aka mourning the loss of Christopher’s presence (just over a month now), resisting the urge to punch Gerrard in the face (also just over a month), getting shit for his mustache (Chimney had a new celebrity lookalike for him every shift), and, of course, coming to terms with his not-so-best-friend-like feelings towards Buck, which both terrified yet exhilarated him.
Or: Eddie hits his head on a call and wakes up in a very eye-opening series of alternate realities.

Summary
“You know what? Maybe I don’t need to know,” Eddie stammered, feeling a sheen of sweat attack his upper lip. “Mysteries are fun. Love a good mystery. Unsolved Mysteries is my favorite show.”
“Eddie’s right,” said Buck with a tight smile. “And besides, tonight isn’t about us. It’s about my beautiful sister, her new husband and their wonderful marriage.”
“Oh, so you don’t want to see the footage of you ripping Eddie’s shirt apart then?” Maddie asked innocently, swallowing a laugh at the deep maroon of her brother’s face and Eddie’s sudden coughing fit.
“I hate you and I hope you get divorced,” Buck replied through gritted teeth.
Or: Buck and Eddie barely remember what happened the night of the bachelor party. The team are more than happy to provide the receipts.

Summary
Running to the frontlines from a childhood he never had. Taking a bat to the wall with his son in the next room. Having an affair with the spitting image of his dead wife.
Eddie knows he’s never been good at grieving, knows he’s never been good at losing what little he allows for himself in the first place. This is why he also knows his coping mechanisms can’t possibly get any worse.
Buck, as he so often does, makes him reevaluate his assumptions.

Summary
Life feels so chaotic for Shane sometimes, with all the loud noises and the unwritten rules he’s expected to follow, even though no one ever taught them to him. It’s why the bookstore feels more like home to him than anywhere else in Boston. It doesn’t ask Shane to be anything other than himself. Doesn’t ask for any more than he can give.
He can just exist here.
Shane likes slow, likes taking his time. And Ilya - without saying or doing anything in particular - makes Shane feel like that’s okay. Like he isn’t doing anything wrong by standing still sometimes.
(Or, Shane works in a bookstore, Ilya plays hockey, and they both go to the same college. They fall in love in every universe.)

Summary
"It had never really been in Ilya’s plans to start a Youtube channel for paranormal investigation..."
Ilya Rozanov is the playboy darling of the oft-forgotten ECHL who never quite lived up to his full potential, but he’s also known for spending the off-season hunting ghosts with his teammates Bood and Troy.
When they dare to investigate the tragic ruins of NHL legend Shane Hollander's former cottage, they are expecting to be confronted by a cursed haunting, a vengeful demon, or at the very least... some entertaining Youtube-worthy content. What Ilya is not expecting, however, is to form an inexplicable bond with the ghost of a hot hockey player and discover that nothing (literally nothing at all) is quite as it seems.
OR; Shane is a ghost, Ilya can see dead people, and it's entirely possible that they once knew each other in a past life.

Summary
Eddie touches Buck a lot.
It’s a thing they do, has been for years, and it’s not a big deal. Eddie’s an affectionate guy. Side hugs and arm grabs and that move where Eddie steers him through doorways with a hand on his lower back.
All of which Buck has never spent any real time considering because it’s just Eddie, it’s just how he is. Eddie touches people and Buck just happens to be the person standing next to him most of the time, so it’s aimed at him most of the time. Proximity and frequency, that’s all. A coincidence.
They’re close. They always have been. So what?
All that being said, there is one thing Eddie doesn’t do.
Eddie doesn’t kiss Buck.
Or — didn’t. Past tense, until about thirty seconds ago, when Eddie leaned across their table at the diner they’re currently eating at and pressed his mouth to Buck’s cheek like the kiss was just another item on a list of things he was doing that afternoon.
Or,
The totally natural and platonic long-term friendship escalation of kissing your best friend on multiple parts of his body without explanation.Bookmarked by WriteCoolUserNameHere

Summary
“Shane had been used to being alone. He'd never thought of himself as lonely. He honestly often craved the solitude, found it grounding. But that was before he knew what it was like to have someone to call, someone to touch. He was never lonely before Rozanov, but he'd been lonely ever since.”
April 2017: Shane does not get laid out on the ice.
Ilya goes through with ending it.
Shane lets him.
What follows is eleven months of distance, denial, and a quiet kind of devastation neither of them knows how to name, let alone fix.
They learn how to live without each other.
(Or at least, how to pretend.)
And then, almost a year later, the infamous collision happens and Shane goes down cold.
And suddenly, neither of them can pretend it doesn’t matter.
