“Come!” commanded her own voice from inside after a moment. It sounded all wrong. Too low, too short. She grimaced, she couldn’t wait for it to finally be time for that thunderstorm he’d promised her.
But she followed the instructions and opened the door, finding Dongfang Qingcang sitting on the edge of her bed, her hair down as he combed through it.
She blinked at the gentleness he was exhibiting in his task. He wasn’t forcing the brush through the tangles, instead pausing to run his- her fingers through the strands until they came loose. For some inexplicable reason, her throat dried and she had to swallow.
“Did you want something?” he asked, not turning his eyes away from the wall he was glaring at.
“Do you mind if I sleep here tonight?”
