Crowley is, above all else, a petty creature.

Crowley believes he is simple. That he wants what he wants and that, as far as he's concerned, the why doesn't matter, so long as he gets it. And, typically, he does get it. (At least for a little while.) And one can't have anything else one might want if one is not alive in the first place, after all. Therefore he should want to survive more than anything else.
