Long ago (or so) angels were born from the half-beating hearts of the "pure".
Now the world exists in city-states, which are built around temples to honor and work with the angels (who are the backbone of society). These temples take in and train "fireflies" from a young age to communicate with wish angels, and essentially run things.Between the rolling hills, under the shooting stars, Yongxian is a firefly with a high priestess for a mother, an anxious nature, and a deep yearning for her fellow firefly, and best friend, Ahja.
At her mother's "request" she aims to become a high priestess, despite her dreams of music.
On the horizon is the final ceremony, the one in which the next high priestesses shall be chosen, along with a sacrifice that may tear time itself.

Summary
Mu Qing dimly registered that he was lying sprawled on his back, the scratchy, fake grass of the football turf irritating his arms. Feng Xin’s entire body was hovering over him, toned arms caging him in. Despite the football helmet heavily obscuring his face, Feng Xin’s shocked and horrified expression was apparent, even to Mu Qing. And Mu Qing's vision was currently swimming in the ocean.
There was a crackle of feedback over the stadium speakers before a voice boomed, flooding the entire field.
“Holy shit! Heavenly High’s own Big Dick King just crashed into the sidelines! Not only is he destroying cheerleaders in bed, he’s destroying their bones on the field!”
Or, Feng Xin tackles his way into Mu Qing's ribs, and then his heart.

Mu Qing chokes and spills hot tea all over himself.
