Maybe it was a crude assumption- Aizawa can’t claim to be a great teller of the scents of people he’s not close to.
This blue haired man… teen ? Kid…
Underneath the almost chemically clean smell which was clearly from over putting on scent blockers Aizawa could smell the blackberry and sponge cake smell that lingered on the kids clothes- that and utter and complete distress.

Aizawa is a Prime Omega who can read scents and secondary genders really well
Shigaraki Tomura is a 17 year old who isn’t allowed to express any kind of secondary characteristic.
