And he thought the month of the Wave mission was long, now he's stuck with the team, in a place he never expected to have anything to do with, with no way back.

Credence turns the carnation over in his hands, confused. "Did you leave this for me?" he asks. This is the fifth flower he's found in as many days. Credence would have a whole bouquet of them now, if he cared to keep them, but pollen makes him sneeze.
"No," says Newt. "That came in with the post this morning." He points, and Credence spies an elegant barn owl perched in the Bowtruckle tree, head under its wing.
Credence sighs. "What does it mean?"
"It means," Newt says, deeply amused, like he doesn't write Tina terrible poetry in between the lines of his manuscript, "that you have an admirer."

The words hit Credence like a physical blow. He knows their truth, but the memories of slow touches and gentle words still linger. This man is so much like the Mr. Graves he knew before-- still brusk, still self-assured to the point of arrogance, but with a vein of dry humor where only darkness lurked before. He still sets Credence’s heart pounding, and Credence wonders if he got what he deserved for his sins.
Or, in which Credence goes looking for the man who betrayed him, but finds someone else altogether.

Newt Scamander's mark is in the form of a panther, wild and ferocious, the black ink running elegantly down his wand arm and ending with the thick tail wrapped possessively around his wrist.
Percival Graves' corporeal Patronus just so happens to be a silver panther.
Too bad the magical community in America has discarded the notion of soulmates and soul marks altogether, and Newt's creatures really aren't helping the situation by repeatedly stealing Graves' things.
(Canon-divergence where Newt rescues the real Percival Graves, they face off Grindelwald together, and Newt decides to take Credence in and set up shop above Kowalski's bakery, much to Mr. Graves' frustration.)

Summary
The first thing Percival Graves does after being released back into the world is buy a new wand. The Aurors recovered his ebony wand from Grindelwald but Graves can’t even look at it, let alone pick it up. He goes to Greymalkin’s the minute he’s let out of the hospital and tries half a dozen wands. Some spark, a few smoke, but only one really works. The wand that chooses him is raw aspen, whiter than bone and so rough that Graves gives himself a splinter conjuring up a storm of brilliant red birds.
Greymalkin eyes the wand distrustfully. “Eleven and a half inches,” he says, sounding sour. “With a dragon heartstring core. One of Ollivander’s. Shoddy work, if you ask me.”
The wand hums against his fingertips. Graves buys it, tucks it up under his sleeve, and keeps it there, splinters and all, until he manages to fall into a fitful sleep later that night.
The second thing Graves does is quit his job, because honestly.
The third thing Graves does is get jumped by Credence Barebone in an alley.

EDIT: officially abandoned y'all. Between Rowling and Ezra my brain stopped being able to separate characters from creators a while ago and it all just feels icky now. I'm still fond of the versions that lived in my head but writing it out? Bleh
