Evan knew things were different from when they were in New York last, and they didn’t have to be afraid of the future now. Willow was where she belonged, with her parents, and Zoe was where she belonged, the Juilliard School of Music. Those things were meant to happen, and Evan would always grateful that they had, but it left him wondering lately, where did he fit in?
Because here in the city, it didn’t feel like he did at all.
But he didn’t know if that was that weird unknown feeling sneaking in trying to ruin things or he just hadn’t found his own rhythm yet and was taking longer to adjust. He'd figure it out eventually though and then their whole family would be happy like they'd planned. Evan was sure their dream would start feeling more dream-like soon, all he needed was time.

“Um, yeah, I think so. That could be nice,” Zoe tells them and it’s the first little smile that Evan’s seen on her face since they got there. And he couldn’t shake the feeling that Cynthia knew exactly what she was doing, toying with Zoe emotions like this, but he didn’t want to ruin this for her.
Maybe it’d be okay though? All he had to do was stay with Zoe, be the voice of reason and keep all their ground rules in place. He would keep Zoe and Willow protected at all costs; nothing would stop him from that. But what if Zoe could get both things? What if she could reconnect with her parents and keep them at a safe distance? Maybe that would be worth it.
It didn’t change the fact that Evan didn’t trust Cynthia or Larry in slightest and neither did Zoe. They trusted each other though, and as long as they stayed vigilant nothing bad would happen.

Evan tries really hard to open his eyes more, to see who had found him on the worst day of his life and when he does, he’s pretty sure he was wrong and is actually dead or hallucinating, because there was absolutely no way in hell that Zoe Murphy just found him.

Evan's happy with his relationship, he really is. Connor was funny and cute and definitely out of Evan's league. He should be happy that Connor wants anything to do with him. He could look past all the times Connor ignored his feelings and made him uncomfortable--he was only doing it because he liked Evan.
When Connor forgets about their plans to hang out, Evan runs into Zoe, who offers to take him home. Kind, sweet Zoe, another person Evan never thought he'd ever get the chance to talk to. Evan finds himself drifting further and further away from Connor the closer and closer he gets with Zoe. The only problem? Zoe is Connor's little sister and no matter what Evan chooses to do, it'll affect all three of them. God, why were feelings so hard?
